Can we talk
Joan Rivers

ability to form and s peak words. I mean the ability to talk - really talk - with others.

Think about all the "conversations" about race, politics, or religion that you h
av e heard or participated in recently, on TV, at public meetings, in church, on Facebook.  It appears to me that, on the whole, we are pretty good at making demands, spewing projectile perspectives, yelling, interrupting, accusing, labeling, and making sweeping assertions about whole groups of people or about how the world ought to work. New Lower Cost to Attend Boundaries Workshop
At a recent staff meeting we discussed the cost of the Boundaries Workshop, to be held on Tuesday, August 2, at Messiah Lutheran Church in Brownsburg, IN from 8:30-3:00. We want everyone interested to attend, so have a new subsidized cost of $50 (plus the Eventbrite registration fee of $3.49). Rostered leaders who registered with the previous fee will be refunded the difference. Again, please note that this Workshop is for all rostered leaders. ELCA expectation is that a rostered leader attend this workshop every 3 years.

We hope a $50 registration cost will be more affordable.

A Paper on Future Directions of the ELCA
The ELCA is a young church at only 28 years old. It is a good time to take a look at where we are as God's people and try to understand what God has in store for us. And we think it is an exciting time to be looking forward together as we approach the 500th anniversary of the Reformation in 2017.

We want to create a vision for the future ELCA - as a church with solid foundations sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ and making a difference in the world locally and globally. And as a church that we can be proud to pass on to our children.

We want to discover how we can continue to faithfully serve God's mission in the years ahead and reach a shared understanding among church leaders about the ministries that are most important.

And we want to assess whether the structures that were set up for this church are right for the future, and as part of this consider how we use our resources in the best possible way. There are many challenges.

Discover what thousands of you said.

ELCA Federal Credit Union Opens
The ELCA Federal Credit Union celebrated its grand opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony June 6 at its headquarters in the Lutheran Center in Chicago. The credit union serves ELCA members, synod employees, congregations and ELCA-related ministries. It is the first of the ELCA's financial ministries to offer individual consumer loans. " This is responsible stewardship," said Presiding Bishop Elizabeth Eaton at the ribbon cutting. "It makes services available to everyone. The ELCA Credit Union is socially responsible and is a great benefit not only to members of the ELCA churchwide organization but to all our members across the church." Interested in learning more?
