Here's seven business (or life) lessons children instinctively know, but adults have somehow forgotten: Read more here.

REMEMBER WHEN
It's hard to believe this was ever a No. 1 hit, but "I'm Henery the Eighth, I Am," by Herman's Hermits topped the Billboard Music Charts this week in 1965. It became the fastest-selling song in history to that point when it was revived by the Hermits.

The Dialogue

This feature is a question-and-answer session with a new Blount County Chamber member. So here we go with our 33rd installment visiting with Dr. Jackie Hone of Trinity Direct Primary Care of Maryville which is committed to providing excellent and compassionate medical care for the entire family.

Describe your unique medical plan. Direct Primary Care provides an affordable means of medical care based on a low monthly membership fee for patients who may have high out-of-pocket costs for medical services or who may not be able to afford insurance. For just $60/month for adults under 65, we can provide your annual physical, all routine bloodwork, in-office testing, unlimited number of office visits, and availability and direct email correspondence with a personal physician. (plans available for children and seniors too)

How did you get started? I began my clinical practice in Sweetwater, Tennessee 10 years ago right out of residency doing office-based medicine, obstetrics and hospital care. I then joined Trinity Medical Associates 7 years ago because it was the right fit for me personally and professionally. Transitioning to a Direct Primary Care model was a natural fit for me because I like to give my patients both quality time and excellent care.

What is your medical background? I completed medical school at The Ohio State University College of Medicine, followed by residency in a rural family medicine program in Grand Junction, Colorado that really emphasized strong clinical skills and well-rounded training. I have been blessed to work alongside truly excellent physicians at Trinity who have set the bar high. They have provided an environment for me to practice medicine with a focus on wellness and the goal of helping patients achieve their best physical, emotional and spiritual health.

Who is your mentor? Dr. Andrew Smith has served as a mentor and key support to me in the years I have worked alongside him at Trinity. He has always been available to me for consultation, both clinically and professionally. He has encouraged my self-confidence as a physician while providing helpful feedback in areas in which I needed to grow.

Describe your patients. My patients value and know that I truly care about them, their health and their concerns. Many of my patients have been unable to afford insurance or have a very high deductible, so this type of plan with DPC has been very helpful to allow them access to a physician and to the care they need. Because of my emphasis and experience with women's health, I see a lot of female patients ages 30-60. One thing I offer in particular to this group is a knowledge of hormone imbalance and different hormonal treatments available to navigate this time of transition.

How have the social, economic, environmental, technological, legal and political environments impacted medical professions? I believe Direct Primary Care offers a much-needed solution to people struggling in today's economy and unable to afford the rising costs of health-care through the traditional insurance model. The DPC model returns the focus of primary care back to the doctor-patient relationship and allows them to form a mutually-beneficial agreement and make decisions about healthcare without the interference or bureaucracy and red tape that insurance often brings.

What do you enjoy the most about being a doctor? I enjoy the ability to deliver healthcare in the way that best fits the needs of my patients, without pressure from insurance and a fee-for-service system that only rewards high volume and adherence to managed-care requirements. I love working in a small office where we know our patients and their families, patients can reach a person by phone when they call, and we can help to control costs in a medical culture otherwise overrun with wasteful medical spending.
