Fellowship Spotlight: Chad Spreadbury

   
Chad Spreadbury knew that he wanted to pursue a degree in environmental engineering when he started at St. Petersburg College in Pinellas County, Florida. After receiving his Associate in Arts, he transferred to the University of Florida to complete his bachelor's degree. UFTI Faculty Member Creates New Simulation Program for Teaching Signalized Intersections 

   
The Introduction to Transportation Engineering undergraduate course at the University of Florida is the first real experience students have with highway engineering and traffic analysis. It is taught generally by a doctoral student under the guidance of a UFTI faculty member. One of these faculty members, Dr. Scott Washburn, has recently created a new software program that will be integrated into the class as a resource, thanks to a grant from the Southeastern Transportation Research Center (STRIDE)... UFTI Student Interns with the Federal Highway Administration 

   
This summer, UFTI's own Deja Jackson is participating in the United States Department of Transportation's Summer Transportation Internship Program for Diverse Groups (STIPDG). Jackson is interning at the FHWA's Turner-Fairbank Highway Research Center (TFHRC) in McLean, VA where she is one of the first to help analyze the newly collected data from their Motorcycle Crash Causation Study (MCCS) ... T2 Has a New Grant Manager

   
UFTI is pleased to welcome Matthew Mueller, who joined us in early July to serve as a grant manager for the Transportation Technology Transfer Center (T2). Muller will be working directly with several of the T2 grants, including the Local Technical Assistance Program (LTAP), the Transportation Safety Center and the Florida Pedestrian and Bike Safety Resources Center... The Highway Capacity Manual (HCM) is now being finalized to produce the 6th Edition of the HCM. McTrans has developed a ninety-minute video which provides an overview of the changes as compared with the current HCM 2010, including some methodological details chapter by chapter... [Read more]

Dr. Sherrilene Classen Returns to UF, Named Chair of Occupational Therapy 

   
Sherrilene Classen, Ph.D., M.P.H., an internationally recognized scientist in driving rehabilitation, has been named chair of the department of occupational therapy at the University of Florida College of Public Health and Health Professions. Dr. Classen is not new to UF though. She was an associate professor at UF Occupational Therapy until she took the position as director of the School of Occupational Therapy at Western University in London, Ontario, Canada. While at UF she collaborated with many of the Transportation affiliates. UFTI is elated that she is returning and we look forward to working with her on driver-related research in the future.  She begins her post on Jan. 2, 2017, succeeding William Mann, Ph.D., a distinguished professor and chair, who is retiring. UFTI Affiliate Assists in High School Robotics Team

For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST) is a non-profit public charity that operates the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC). UFTI Faculty Member Promoted to Full Professor 

   
Join us in congratulating UFTI faculty member Dr. Scott Washburn's promotion to Full Professor. Washburn has served as a faculty member in the Department of Civil and Coastal Engineering at the University of Florida since his appointment in August of 1999. From that time, he has advised more than a hundred students who have gone on to work in the private and public sectors of transportation... [Read more]
