Building Partnerships: MNPHA's 2016 Conference
If you haven't blocked November 23 and 24, 2016 in your calendar, be sure to do so right away.
The 2016 MNPHA conference is the largest non-profit housing conference in Manitoba and this year's event will provide many opportunities for learning and networking.
In particular, you won't want to miss our keynote speaker, Steven Stride. Steve has worked in the United Kingdom housing sector his entire professional career and has had a lifelong involvement in the wider community third sector.
Since 1998, he has led a £1 billion regeneration program to reshape the Poplar area in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. With a team of over 300 staff, he manages over 9,000 homes, twelve community hubs and has developed successful partnerships across private, public and third sectors to deliver award winning services, facilities and amenities.

Request for Proposals for the Sponsor Management of Affordable Family Housing
Manitoba Housing is seeking proposals from non-profit housing providers who are interested in managing, operating, and administering a new apartment building located in Winnipeg's North Point Douglas neighbourhood.
The building, located at 150 Austin Street North, is currently under construction and is scheduled to be completed by January 2017.
This new three-storey apartment building will have 19 housing units, the majority of which will be larger units to accommodate the needs of families with dependents.Housing units will be made available to low-moderate income households in accordance with Manitoba Housing's Social Housing Rental Program and Affordable Housing Rental Program.
Manitoba Housing will remain the registered owner of the property and is seeking proposals from those who are willing to partner and act on Manitoba Housing's behalf for the long-term operations of the project by way of a Sponsor Management Agreement.
A competitive selection process is being used to ensure that the most appropriate, sound and cost-effective proposal is selected.

MNPHA meeting with the Minister
On July 21, 2016, members of the MNPHA Board of Directors, along with our Interim Association Manager, met with the Honourable Scott Fielding, Manitoba Minister of Families, and his staff.
The focus of the meeting was to introduce our association and its members to the newly elected Minister, to thank him for the collegial working relationship that MNPHA has enjoyed with his department in the past and to encourage him to ensure that when housing issues are on the table, that MNPHA is included in the discussion.
In the meeting, the Minister outlined that the Province is developing a consultation mechanism on the federal government's planning for a long term national housing strategy. MNPHA has been invited to participate in that consultation and to bring forward the concerns and ideas of our members about the strategy.
Our annual conference in November of this year will feature a roundtable consultation and discussion about what needs to be addressed in a national housing strategy from the non-profit housing sector's perspective. Please plan to attend the consultation on Thursday afternoon, November 24, 2016.
Thank you to the members who provided concerns and questions to be shared with the Minister on July 21. Our allotted meeting time with the Minister was short so not every question could be directly answered, but overall, the Board members in attendance felt that the Minister was open to our concerns as affordable housing providers and we expect a collegial and mutually beneficial relationship with Manitoba Housing to continue.

Sod Turned for New Co-op Housing Development
The sod has been turned on the Old Grace Housing Cooperative construction!
On Thursday, August 11, 2016, a celebration occurred to kick off the building of the 60-unit cooperative in the heart of Winnipeg's Wolseley neighbourhood.
The building's design both reflects the scale and character of the homes in this well-established community and exceeds Canadian standards for environmental sustainability. The co-operative is committed to providing housing at cost and is open to individuals and families.
