Council President's Message
Some of us have routines - they can be pretty wonderful: keeping us on track and allowing us to pay attention to other priorities while we move ahead with things that feel good and are good for us when done.

One routine that has stayed with me for my entire adult life is to get up and out before I start the day in earnest. Every day the dogs and I roll out the back door: Wurly (Mr. I Love to MOVE) is raring to go and Meery (Ms. NOT so Fast - Yet) is carried down the street by the first 3 houses; then treats for everyone; at least one drop to the grass by Ms. Meery. At the end of Glen Dr. at the big rock, and only then, we begin our 2.3 miles. This is our routine every day and we know exactly what to expect and how it will be..... It is like clockwork until...

.... it is HOT or RAINING.

Then our TRUE natures appear.

My jaw sets just a little bit; Wurly's tail twitches and his ears set back; and Meery's knees lock in place (if we are lucky she does not do her version of "dead-dog"). Our individual attitudes eventually align (at the big rock aka the last frontier) and so we begin our walk a little late and a little annoyed. But.... by the time we get home we are all happy we went and really pleased we accomplished it together one more morning.

Our Church at LCR has a few routines too - for most of us Sunday morning service is an important one. We arrive with our individual attitudes ready to start the week the way we are used to.... each with our own true and precious in God's sight nature and disposition. Most Sundays this works great: we stroll in, sing a bit, pray a lot, enjoy a cookie and cup of coffee, visit with our friends and learn something about the Word we had not thought about before.

The weather at LCR has been changeable and our routines have been tested. And we might do best to acknowledge that there will be more routines disrupted. Change has an annoying way of making our lives better after a bit of pain and aggravation.

Please pray with me that our journey and our walk together is accomplished and that we can all enjoy the time and rewards of a spiritual routine done well.

Peace,
Liz

Farewell Pastor Jeff

On Sunday, July 24th, the congregation bid Pastor Jeff a fond farewell at a cake reception in his honor following his last service.  We would like take this opportunity to thank him once again for helping to guide us through this time of transition here at LCR.  His dedicated service as Interim Pastor is truly appreciated and we wish him well in his new calling at Holy Communion Lutheran Church in Berlin, New Jersey.

Summer Worship
LCR's Sunday summer worship schedule consists of one service at 10am. This schedule will continue throughout the summer.  Music during the month of August will  be provided by Eric Jorgenson and the service will be more contemporary.

Though our July picnic and outdoor worship was cancelled due to extreme heat and Yard Sale preparations, we hope you will plan to join us on Wednesday, August 24th for our final opportunity for a special evening fellowship this season. The picnic will begin at 6pm (please bring a side dish or dessert to share), followed by outdoor worship with communion. Hotdogs, hamburgers and veggie burgers will be provided: a volunteer is needed to grill.  Please contact Pam Leggio or Cheryl Varga if you can help.

On September 11th, LCR will participate in the ELCA's "God's Work, Our Hands" Sunday, which is a day of volunteer service to the community. Look for details about how you can get involved. The service time for that Sunday's worship will be at 11 am, in order to allow those who wish to attend events at the Garden of Reflection in Lower Makefield (it will be the 14th anniversary of 9/11).

Then, on September 18th, we will hold our annual Rally Day, with a return to our regular schedule of three services resumes: traditional at 8am and 11am and contemporary at 9:30am. It is expected that Faith Alive for our Youth will commence on this date. There are opportunities to help serve in a variety of ways, assisting minister, communion assistant, usher, choir or ARISE member, acolyte, offering collection counter, Faith Alive teacher/assistant, hospitality hour, etc. If you feel called to serve or want to learn more, please contact the office and you will be connected with the appropriate contact person.
Interfaith Food Alliance
What do 10 local Faith Communities, food insecurity and YOU have in common? LCR is part of an alliance of local communities making up the IFA in Morrisville. Your food and gift card donations make it possible to help families with school age children who are experiencing food insecurity. Each month, each Faith community focuses on different food and non-food items not covered by SNAP (food stamps) for collection from their congregations. LCR happily accepts any food or non-food items you wish to donate.  If you would like to learn more about the Interfaith Food Alliance (IFA), please check us out on Facebook or on our website.  You can also help by volunteering your time.

Interfaith Food Alliance Night Out at Bristol Riverside Theatre

Please join fellow supporters of the Interfaith Food Alliance for a fun evening at The Bristol Riverside Theatre for "A Closer Walk With Patsy Cline" on October 6th.  Tickets should be purchased by August 15th.  The ticket price is $45 with $14 of your ticket purchase going directly to the IFA to help us purchase fresh produce, meat, dairy, and other items for The Family Backpack Center, a food pantry for children of the Morrisville School District, and their families, who are living food insecure.  Please CLICK HERE for additional information.  If you have any questions, please contact Diane Casey via email at [email protected]
August Shared Meal
Please join us for our August Shared Meal for the Homeless and Those In Need on Sunday, August 21st!  Our menu will include ham, side dishes, salad, bread and dessert.  Set up begins at 2:30pm with the meal being served at 4:00pm.  A sign up sheet is located on the ramp leading to fellowship hall.  Please feel free to drop in, but if you can sign up; it helps us plan.  We are happy to have you join us for dinner and help provide hospitality, whether or not you can provide a dish to share.
Family Promise of Lower Bucks
August Prayer Calendar

Dear Family Promise of Lower Bucks supporters,

Please pray daily for Family Promise in the month of August.  We've had families benefiting from all of your prayers and the work surrounding this ministry! We need prayer for guidance to identify a new Day Center site in November. Additionally, there is a need for more volunteers to help at the Day Center, for our director, the host congregations, leadership, each of the volunteers, our new recipient families, and the financial need. For online prayer sign up,  please CLICK HERE or visit the Family Promise of Lower Bucks website at www.fplb.org . We thank you in advance for your continued support. It is truly appreciated!

Sometimes The Numbers Don't Add Up OR Random Acts Of Kindness...

My mom has always maintained that I see the world in black and white, rather than shades of gray.  Perhaps this directly relates to the fact that I was a math major... for all my life, numbers just made (and make) sense.  We see numbers everywhere: speed limits, exit numbers, highway numbers, digital clocks, radio stations... So to me, when I think of Megan and Daniel being 9 and 12, that is a good number combination.  12 months is a year, and 9 months is ¾ of a year.  Twelve is a dozen.  Both numbers are divisible by 3... even after Megan turns 10 in November, for the couple months before Daniel's birthday, 10 and 12 is still a good number combination... both are even numbers, nice doubles.  You can still roll them on two dice.  So that's just how my mind thinks.

In other news, we just got back from a week camping in Maine last night.  It was beautiful weather, despite repeated threats of rain and thunderstorms which miraculously never materialized after our first night (which is another story!).  It was wonderful just doing the outdoor stuff we love and spending time together as a family... but of course, it was not without sibling rivalry and tense moments.  It all evens out though, and soon all I'll remember is the good stuff.

So early Sunday morning, we set a new record by breaking camp in 23 minutes, and left at the ugh early hour of 6:41 for the 12-hour drive home.  It was a gorgeous 66 degrees.  We planned to stop out our usual Dunkin' Donuts stop 30 minutes away.  DD is an easy stop, because since we've done it so often, we have a "regular" order.  Now, this regular order does not often involve drinks (besides coffee for Mommy at that time of day!), but this was special and everyone did a great job getting up and out that morning.  Megan accompanied me in her fleece Elf On The Shelf pjs (shh, don't tell Jim!) and she was telling the cashier that she was getting the mango smoothie to share with her brother.  That thing was gigantic!!  A big 32-ouncer.  Anyway, the man behind us in line (who smiled unfathomably way too much in the morning for someone like me and was super friendly and chatty) started talking to Megan.  He asked her where her brother was, if he was older or younger, etc.

Well, she must have charmed this friendly man, because just after I got out of the bathroom and joined her where she was waiting, he walked over to us with another huge mango smoothie.  He gave it to Megan and said, "Here, now you can have your own, and so can your brother."

I was floored and nearly speechless.  Obviously, I've never met this man before and will likely never see him again in my life.  All I could do was stammer, "Thank you.  Thank you so much.  That's way too kind of you!" and subsequently explain to Megan as we made our way back to the car, that sometimes someone does something so unexpectedly nice for you, that it really restores your faith in the kindness of people.  It was a random act of kindness by this big-hearted, smiley, optimistic, thoughtful stranger.

So, sometimes the numbers don't add up.  I didn't pay for that extra second smoothie, and frankly, we did nothing to deserve it.  It was simply the kindness of a stranger.  And it set the tone of gratefulness for a long ride home on a bright, sunny day.
