 From the Music Director

Jon Noyes conducting FCCC

Greetings and welcome to the 20th Anniversary Season of the Fairfield County Children's Choir! Over these many years we have provided hundreds of children "the opportunity to participate in a musical experience that is challenging, rewarding and enjoyable." This quote from our Mission Statement only begins to convey the impact the FCCC has had on the lives of our choristers, on their families and on the community as well. We look forward to many more years of making music together!

FCCC conductor and accompanist Lisa Bettke recently shared a great book with our staff titled Imperfect Harmony - Finding Happiness Singing with Others by Stacy Horn. As I read it last month I noticed that the author's descriptions of her choral experiences were synonymous with the comments we often hear from our choristers. Horn writes, "Singing is the one thing in my life that never fails to take me where disenchantment is almost nonexistent and feeling good is pretty much guaranteed. Every

week when I go to rehearsal I'm dead tired and don't think I'll make it until 9:30. But then something magic happens and I revive ... it happens almost every time."  Read More

Serenade Choral Festival
Washington, D.C., Maryland & Virginia

The FCCC Chamber Singers recently attended the Serenade Festival, which involved concerts and touring in Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia. This remarkable festival had incredible international and multi-generational elements. There were four youth choirs: from the Czech Republic, Norway, Canada and the U.S. There were three young adult professional groups from Zimbabwe, the Netherlands and Russia. (This was a highly unique aspect of this festival.) Finally, the Yale Alumni Chorus (from Connecticut!) was made up of recent grads up to singers in their 80's. Concerts and other festival events took place at local churches and concert halls, including the Strathmore Music Center, which was a beautiful hall that many choristers compared to Ozawa Hall at Tanglewood (where we performed in June 2013).Read More

FCCC Performs on America's Got Talent

On April 6 the FCCC Chamber Singers traveled to the Theater at Madison Square Garden to perform on the television show America's Got Talent. We were called in March by a talent scout from the show who had seen our Smilow Cancer Hospital television commercial. It was very exciting to be at MSG and participate in the process of taping a live television program. However, AGT's rules do not allow us to share the results.

FCCC Repertoire

I recently spoke with an FCCC senior who is planning to audition for college and wanted ideas for possible repertoire. For many years children's choirs around the world have included some vocal solo repertoire in their programs. Not only are these important masterworks which are rewarding for the choristers to sing and for the audience to hear, but they also provide our members with possible repertoire for occasions such as auditions and recitals. Click here for a partial list of the standard vocal solo repertoire we have performed. This list does not include all of the standard Broadway solos we have performed as well!!

Chorister Profiles

We have an outstanding group of seniors in the FCCC this year! It is always interesting to learn about them, their favorite songs and to hear their thoughts about the choir. Congratulations to this wonderful group!!!

Favorite FCCC Song: Freedom Trilogy

In Your Own Words

I joined FCCC in eighth grade, and I couldn't be more grateful that I did. Since then, FCCC has become a huge part of my life. I consider myself extremely lucky that I was able to be part of an environment with so many talented and passionate musicians while also getting to know such incredible people. Whether at a Wednesday night rehearsal or at Carnegie Hall, working alongside such dedicated and talented choristers and conductors has been a gift. I can't thank the conductors and accompanists enough for their patience, passion, and hard work. When I go to college next year, I will definitely miss being part of a choir that has such a high level of musicality but also, perhaps most importantly, knows how to "have fun being awesome."

DeLasho Name: Mia DeLasho

Age: 16

School: Homeschooled

Town: Fairfield

Favorite FCCC Song: Cloudburst

In Your Own Words

I joined FCCC when I was twelve years old, it was one of my very first singing experiences, and I have loved every minute of it. Being a bit of a musicals geek, I can remember vividly my feeling of utter joy when I first learned there would be a concert each year dedicated entirely to Broadway music. Participating in FCCC has provided me with amazing opportunities I would not have found elsewhere. I have performed in beautiful spaces, worked with many interesting people, and learned so much about music and the hard work it takes to perform it well. Getting to sing with a large group of people each week has given me a wonderful feeling of community that I had not previously experienced, and such a feeling is not to be underestimated! For all of this and more, I am truly grateful.

In Your Own Words

Choir has given me so much over the years and for that I am incredibly grateful!  I have cherished the amazing opportunities to work with extremely talented musicians, both inside and out of the choir, and it has been an honor for me to be able to learn and grow as a musician alongside them.  I am so thankful to have had the opportunities that Mr. Noyes so tirelessly offers and prepares us for, and I know that I could not have received the remarkable training and experiences that come from being a part of FCCC anywhere else.  All in all, the past seven years of my choir involvement have provided me with an invaluable set of knowledge, memories, and friends, and I look forward to enjoying what my senior year brings!

Jen Name: Jenny Moran

Age: 17

School: Fairfield Ludlowe High School

Favorite FCCC Song: Children Go Where I Send Thee

In Your Own Words

FCCC has been a part of my life since 5th grade, and it's been amazing. Since then I have been able to travel with FCCC to West Point, Carnegie Hall, perform with the Cross Border Orchestra, and many more. Being in FCCC has changed how I will look at music for the rest of my life, and I greatly appreciate that. I want to say thank you to all of the conductors especially Mr. Noyes for his fantastic conducting throughout the years, and Mr. Cotellese because I have been with him since 7th grade in Concert Choir and he is an amazing and hilarious conductor. Being in FCCC has taught me how to 'have fun being awesome' not only in choir but in other ways as well. Thank you all for a wonderful 8 years in choir that always helped me trudge through school on Wednesdays because I would always say, hey I have choir tonight!

Samantha Name: Samantha de Lannoy

Age: 17

School: Fairfield Ludlowe High School

Town: Southport

Favorite FCCC Song:  Bridge Over Troubled Water

In Your Own Words

I am so lucky to have found FCCC.  What is so amazing about FCCC is that I joined in fifth grade, and no matter how many other things I have grown out of, I still enjoy going to choir.  For me it was a way to still participate in choir while playing in band and wind ensemble in school.  Being in the choir has taught me proper posture while singing and really helped me to become a better musician.  I am thankful for the opportunity it has given me to make new friends, perform in exciting places and work with famous composers.  Thank you to all the choir directors and members for making these past eight years so memorable.  I so happy that I never let my busy schedule prevent me from being a part of this amazing choir.  I am excited to see what my senior year of choir has in store!

Emily Name: Emily Chizmadia

Age: 17

School: Fairfield Ludlowe High School

Town: Fairfield

Favorite FCCC Song: Total Praise

In Your Own Words

From fourth grade all the way to my senior year in high school, I have been more than thankful to be in FCCC throughout these past nine years.  Being able to do something I love surrounded by people who love to do the same thing I do is truly a gift. I always try to put into words the feeling that singing with friends gives me, but it cannot really be explained until you experience it yourself. I have made some of my best friends in choir, and I have thousands of great memories to carry on with me for the rest of my life. I feel so lucky to have my "choir family" and to have worked with Mr. Noyes who has been helping me grow as a musician since Kindergarten at Holland Hill. Again, I am overly thankful to have been a part of such a special group who I've sung with, traveled with, joked with, and loved unconditionally throughout these nine years. You all have influenced my life hugely and I will be forever grateful for that!

Alumni News/Testimonials

We recently received this letter from Sofia Bramante's father. Congratulations, Sofia!!!

Dear Jon & Barbara:

I hope that this email finds each of you well, and ready for another exciting season for FCCC.  At the moment, my wife and I are getting ready to "deliver" Sofia to UDel to start her college career, which she is so very ready for, due partly to her experiences in FCCC.  Thank you once again!

I'm writing to tell you some very exciting news!  Sofia has been selected as a Davidson Fellow for 2014.  In case you're unaware, the Davidson Fellowship is a competition that has been named as one of the The10 Biggest Scholarships in the World by TheBestColleges.org, and one of 7 Prestigious Undergrad Scholarships in U.S. News & World Report.

Sarah von Euler is now a freshman at Davidson College in North Carolina.

Hi Mr. Noyes:

Hope the school year and choir season have gotten off to a good start. Just wanted to let you know that we heard from Sarah last night and she was ecstatic to have been invited to join Davidson's top choir. It only has 40 members, so she was not at all confident that she would make it, but the excellent training and experience she received through FCCC paid off. Thank you! Looking forward to attending some concerts in the upcoming year!

Best wishes,
Nancy von Euler

The memo below was written by Carol Huffert, a choir parent, in response to a caroling project the choir will undertake in December 2014, visiting nursing homes and people who are homebound.

Hi Jon - My daughter, Katie Huffert will be joining Chambers this year. She is very excited to be part of your wonderful group. I wanted to take a minute to thank you in advance for your upcoming caroling project. I personally witnessed how carolers singing for a person at their home can make an incredible difference. Almost 27 years ago my Mom was at home with terminal cancer and in tremendous pain. Read More
