MESSAGE FROM PASTOR TIM

Dear Friends and Members of Ark and Dove,

A central component of the life of a Christian disciple is generosity towards and serving others;  Acts of Mission, Mercy and Justice is one of the Six Marks of Discipleship.  One of the chief ways we encourage and empower people to serve others at Ark and Dove is through our Mission Ministry.  The Mission Ministry will be meeting on Wednesday evening, September 7, 2016 at 7:00 pm in the Ark and Dove room.  Elder Christine Caufield-Noll has said, "We'll be focusing on the upcoming and ongoing activities in mission (Winter Relief will be about a month away!), as well as new opportunities to expand our ministry."   You are invited and encouraged to attend and to participate in Mission at whatever level your life allows.

Mark your calendars for Winter Relief. We will host twenty-five homeless men from October 10 to October 16

In Christ,
Tim

VERSE AND PRAYER

In that region there were shepherds living in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. Then an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid; for see-I am bringing you good news of great joy for all the people: to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is the Messiah, the Lord. --Luke 2:8-11

MY LORD GOD, I have no idea where I am going. I do not see the road ahead of me. I cannot know for certain where it will end. Nor do I really know myself, and the fact that I think that I am following your will does not mean that I am actually doing so. But I believe that the desire to please you does in fact please you. And I hope I have that desire in all that I am doing. I hope that I will never do anything apart from that desire. And I know that if I do this you will lead me by the right road though I may know nothing about it. Therefore will I trust you always though I may seem to be lost and in the shadow of death. I will not fear, for you are ever with me, and you will never leave me to face my perils alone. --Through the Year with Thomas Merton

TES FOR YOU

This Sunday, the 9:30 service will be filled with beautiful music.  I hope you will be there to hear our talented youth, Veronica Musican and Brittany Wellington.  Veronica will play the Prelude and Brittany will play the offertory.  The wonderful Paula Sparks will be filling in for me this week, as Eric, Anderson and I take a much-needed vacation to New York City for the weekend.  I will look forward to seeing you all when we get back.

Love,
Rebecca

This past week, I was very proud to launch my new website and social media platform, which all leads to: www.MarkEdwardsguitar.com.
Thank you so much for the positive response from all of my friends on facebook - but if we are not friends on facebook, please go check it out, and more importantly... let's be social media friends!

Also, there is a new album that was released by NeedtoBreathe in July called Hard Love, and it sounds great!  If you need a mid-week pick me up, check out their song Testify in particular.

God bless,
Mark

Adult Small Groups

SMALL GROUP FELLOWSHIP
A REFLECTION ON SMALL GROUP FELLOWSHIP I loved single service Sunday.  I enjoyed seeing so many people I know.  Then I started to reflect on how I knew so many.  I am an "old timer," but many of my friends have moved from the community.  Nonetheless, I feel connected to the church and to individual members.  I have developed new relationships and deepened others through participating in small groups.  In small groups we have cried, laughed, and prayed together.  We have opened up to one another.  So when we come together in worship, I feel a true fellowship with the community.

In the fall I'm planning on joining the Spirited Sisters for the Saturday morning biweekly study, beginning on September 17 at 9 am.  This Bible Study uses DVDs and discussion to look at the spiritual lessons of Twelve Women of the Bible and their implications in life today.  Would you like to learn more about the small group opportunities? Please take a look at our Adult Groups page on the Ark and Dove website. I look forward to connecting with friends, old and new! Shelley Franklin, shelleyfranklin@vwrld.net.

SMALL GROUP OPPORTUNITY - EXPLORING THE WAY
AN INTRODUCTION TO THE SPIRITUAL JOURNEY All are invited to take part Tuesday nights at 7:00 pm, September 20, 27, October 4, 18, 25, and November 1, 8. Pastor Tim will be co-leading, with Steve and Cathy Debus, an exploration of An Introduction to the Spiritual Journey from Upper Room Ministries. In the gathering, the notion of Spiritual Formation will be introduced in week one and, then for next seven weeks, the group will explore and try on several different spiritual/prayer practices, while sharing individual successes, joys and failures. More than a few people, who have participated in this experience, have said that it started them again in a fresh way on their faith journey.  Sign up in the lobby or contact Pastor Tim, TimS10@aol.com.
