California Public Utilities Commission Hosts Meeting on 916 Area Code
The California Public Utilities Commission will hold a public meeting in Folsom on Monday, August 15 to provide information and obtain input on the introduction of a new area code to the region now served by the 916 area code. The 916 area code is now expected to use up its available prefixes by March 2018 due to increased demand.

Adding a new area code is known as an overlay, which would provide additional prefixes and new telephone numbers for the 916 area code customers.  The overlay, pending CPUC approval, would allow all customers to keep their current phone numbers, including their area code.  To avoid service disruption, the new area code would be added to the 916 area by September 2017, six months before depletion of prefixes.  In September 2017, customers requesting new phone numbers would be assigned a new area code.
The meeting will be held on Monday, August 15 at 6 p.m. at the Folsom Community Center Activity Room, located at 52 Natoma Street. For more information and other regional public meeting dates, visit www.cpuc.ca.gov/AreaCodes.
Volunteers Needed for Bridge Building Project
Volunteers are needed from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, August 20, to help build the first of three bike/pedestrian bridges along the Lake Natoma Waterfront Trail. The new ¾-mile loop trail begins at the sidewalk along Gold Lake Drive in Folsom's Historic District and continues along the shoreline of Lake Natoma.

The bridge building project is labor-intensive and requires volunteers with previous experience and carpentry, construction, or engineering skills. Due to the complexity of the project, volunteers must be 18 years or older. Register to volunteer at http://webtrac.folsom.ca.us and use activity code 371062-01 or call 916-355-7285 for more details.
