For Your Viewing Pleasure
Looking fit and still maintaining a big-league swagger, Jose Canseco has resurfaced as a knuckle ball pitcher for the Pittsburg Diamonds, a Pacific Association team headquartered in the East Bay. Canseco pitched on Sunday afternoon and while his line was not sterling, giving up two runs and hitting four batters in four-plus innings, the allure and enchantment of this 52-year-old 1988 American League MVP of the Oakland A's is undeniable. The Sonoma Stompers would win the game, 10-5.

Three-time winner and record holder Christoph Strasser (Austria) has registered for his seventh Race Across America. In 2015, after a disappointing DNF in RAAM, Strasser was hit by a car in a training incident, injuring a knee and shoulder. While subsequent surgery was successful he sat out 2016 to train. His training is back up to his usual level and next week he's scheduled to return to the Race Around Austria, an event he won in 2014 and 2015. With a total length of 2,200 kilometers around Austria, peppered with 30,000 meters of altitude, it is now one of the world's most important ultra-cycling races.
