Greetings,

Did you know you might qualify for training funds if you work at a private company that pays Hawaii state unemployment compensation? The Employment Training Fund (ETF) offers tuition assistance for continuing education courses offered through all of the University of Hawaii community colleges. Employers currently receive tuition assistance for ETF approved courses of up to 50% of the first $500 of the price of the course. We encourage you to take advantage of this benefit offered through the State of Hawaii Workforce Development Division of the Department of Labor.

All the best to you,
Beryl Morimoto

Meet Annie Meier, Registrar

Meet Annie Meier, our newest PCATT team member. Annie started her career working for several Congressmen in Washington DC. She enjoyed her years on The Hill because of her fascination with politics. Annie most recently worked in one of the largest school systems in the country. Her years of experience in the executive offices, Superintendent, and School Board provided her with strong customer service skills and the ability to manage many assignments in very busy offices.

We're privileged to have Annie on our team and she is appreciative and happy to be working at Honolulu Community College and most especially for PCATT.

Veterans Welcome

The Honolulu Community College campus in the PCATT consortium is certified to accept funding from the Veterans Administration (VA) for selected non-credit training programs. You may use VA benefits for programs such as Cisco, Microsoft, Oracle, GIS, CAD, BICSI, and others. The key is that your training must be part of a program, not just a standalone course.

It is crucial to be updated on the latest changes with the VA that impact processing of training benefits so PCATT sent its School Certifying Official (SCO), Germaine Tsukamoto, to the annual Western Association of Veterans Education Specialist (WAVES) training conference.

For information on how to use your VA benefits, we welcome you to contact Germaine @ 808 845-9184.

And Finally...

This one isn't new and here's hoping no government employee takes offense. The Encyclopedia of Ethical Failure is a compendium of actual actions of government employees, categorized by types of ethical failures. Some are hard to believe which explains their inclusion in this list of failures. You can read an excerpt from the book or listen to a podcast from Freakonomics Radio (18:40).
