The Palm Beach Civic Association celebrates the life of Suzanne Wright, devoted mother and grandmother, visionary co-founder of Autism Speaks, and loving wife of our Civic Association Chairman and CEO Bob Wright.

Suzanne was an inspiration. She was focused, energetic, highly motivated, and determined to make a difference in causes that matter. Autism Speaks describes her as "a tireless champion for the 70 million people affected by autism worldwide."

In May 2008, she and Bob were selected for Time Magazine's "100 Most Influential People in the World" issue.

The Town of Palm Beach held a Community Forum on the Zika virus Wednesday in the Council Chambers at Town Hall. The meeting was well attended by residents, property managers, landscape and pest control service personnel, and the press.
President and Congress Failing to Fight Zika in Florida: Gov. Rick Scott 
Gov. Rick Scott Washington is failing to adequately fund the fight against the mosquito-borne Zika virus even as the first cases of local transmission crop up in the Miami area, Florida Gov. Rick Scott said Wednesday; "Think about this, this is not just a Florida issue. This a national, international issue. We're just the tip of the spear."
CDC Director: Zika Travel Advisory to Florida Could Last a Year

On Aug. 1, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention urged pregnant women to avoid visiting a South Florida neighborhood where mosquito-borne cases of the Zika virus have emerged. It was the first time officials have warned against travel to part of the continental United States because of the outbreak of an infectious disease.

The Town of Palm Beach announces board alternate member opening on the Town's Landmarks Preservation effective immediately. The Landmarks Preservation Commission safeguards the Town's historic and cultural resources through its landmarked structures and historic districts.
Judge Cancels Settlement Meeting in Farmworkers' Lawsuit
Protesters
Magistrate Judge William Matthewman canceled the settlement conference scheduled for Thursday at the request of the Coalition of Immokalee Workers. The coalition said the meeting "would be futile," according to its July 29 request.

Residents are helping lead an effort to clean up Bingham Islands, a popular spot for kayakers, bird watchers and nature lovers. Bingham Island Sanctuary, a privately owned 22-acre nature reserve just south of the Southern Boulevard Causeway, is in disrepair and needs urgent care, according to the Florida Audubon.

Hedrick Brothers Construction will work 24 hours a day, seven days a week and aim to finish in 24 days or less. One lane will be closed in front of the property at 1520 S. Ocean Blvd., and traffic will be directed by flaggers and temporary signals north and south of the site.

What started as a way to deal with her niece's death launched an international service project for nurse Mayda Loveland Tress and hospitals around South Florida. On Friday, she organized the packaging and shipping of scores of medical supplies from West Boca Medical Center to Zacapa, Guatemala, for the medically underserved communities there.
