Dear Discovery Families,

It is with great enthusiasm and gratitude that I welcome you to the 2016-17 school year at The Discovery School. We begin our journey with a refreshed brand and mission
to open our minds and hearts so we can discover the knowledge and ideals to build a better world . The progressive education experience we offer children is a relevant contribution to our city, our region and our world. Thank you for believing in our vision to cultivate an inclusive and vibrant community that promotes academic excellence, creativity, independent thinking and mutual respect.

Our enrollment is at an historic high and we are excited about continued growth for Discovery which includes welcoming new teaching staff to our community. Please take a moment to discover our newest faculty members and take an opportunity at Open House (for currently enrolled families only) on August 22 to welcome them to Discovery!

Our team of professional educators and administrators look forward to serving you in the spirit of Discovery's mission, vision and values throughout the upcoming school year. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Onward with hope,
Kim
WELCOME NEW STAFF MEMBERS

STEPHANIE DORAN
After earning a Bachelor's degree in English from Marist College, Stephanie began her career as a financial journalist in New York City. After three years, she realized that she wanted to be in a field where she could make a difference. This led her to obtain her Master's degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education from the Bank Street College of Education and began teaching. After teaching in private Montessori-influenced schools, Stephanie pursuded her Montessori certification. For the past three years, she has been working as an instructional coach, as well as leading and creating professional development with a math and student-centered focus for teachers all over the country. Outside of the classroom, she enjoys running and yoga.

SARA BLOOMBERG

Sara has twenty years of experience as an educator and mentor working in some of the best Montessori schools in New York City. She has always been a natural educator, starting from her days conducting impromptu lessons to her stuffed animals in Cape Town, South Africa, and eventually finding her focus when she read Maria Montessori's 'The Absorbent Mind' for the first time as a student at SUNY (State University of New York) Purchase, where she earned her Bachelor's degree in Literature and Photography. She knew then that Montessori education would become a lifelong path. When Sara isn't espousing the virtues of Montessori, she can be found basking in the sun, practicing yoga, gardening, swimming, or cooking.

SUSAN SADLER
Susan joins us from Amelia Island Montessori School, where she was once a student herself many years ago. Susan pursued a degree in Psychology from Florida State University before her  passion for Montessori was reignited when her own children began attending school. After spending several years as an Associate Teacher in both Toddler and Primary programs, she knew without a doubt her calling was to be a Montessori Teacher! When not in the classroom, she can be found walking on the beach, reading, swimming, and paddling.

STACY DERLETH
Stacy earned a Bachelor's degree in Business Supervision before earning her Master's degree in Library Science from Florida State University and has worked for the Jacksonville Public Library and the University of North Florida Library. Her focus as a librarian is on promoting literacy, delivering information skills instruction, and managing the library collection. Her hope is to foster a lifelong love of reading by encouraging students to check out books that interest them. Stacy is looking forward to her toddler son beginning school at Discovery in the fall.

BRITTNEY WILSON
Brittney graduated from the University of North Florida with a degree in Nutrition and Dietetics with a focus on dietetic care for children. Her Montessori journey began by attending the Duhovka Institute in Prague for her Montessori training. She joins us from Amelia Island Montessori School where she was a Primary Teacher. When she is not in the classroom, she enjoys kayaking, reading, painting, or hiking through the woods with her dog.

WENDY MORTON

As a former Discovery parent, Wendy has an appreciation and love of Montessori which makes her position of Primary Associate Teacher a perfect fit. After earning her Bachelor's degree in Hotel and Restaurant Administration, she was a manager of luxury inns, law firms, and non-profits. Outside of the classroom, she enjoys running, swimming, reading, knitting, and scrap booking.
