August is "Children's Eye Health and Safety Month"

It's back to school for all our children across the Nation! Parents are rushing around for school supplies, hair cuts and last minute documents. Let's us honor our children's health with the upmost care. Don't forget to check your children's eye health and immunization records, so that they can start off the School Year right!

EMPOWERING OUR FUTURE TRIBAL LEADERS

The 5th Annual Native Youth Summit was a huge success! Thanks to our vibrant volunteers, chaperones and speakers for creating a meaningful learning experience for our youth! It is a widely held value of our community members to view our children as sacred and that they hold the answers for many current challenges. At CSVANW, we echo that same sentiment! We were able to provide a space for the Native youth to gain vital leadership skills and elevate their understanding about how violence impacts not only their families but their communities, and ways in which they can break the cycle of violence.

Our very own fierce Native Youth Coordinator, Keioshiah Peter, collected video testimonies from the Native Youth on the last day! Stay tuned with CSVANW's Happenings, she's doing an amazing job putting together a collage of the Native Youth's thoughts about their experience and highlights!

CSVANW humbly thanks the outpouring donations and sponsorships for the 5th Annual Native Youth Summit! With your generous contribution, 40 Native Youth were able to have an AMAZING one-of-a-kind experience at the Tamaya Resort & Spa and Santa Fe Mountain Center!

CSVANW selected to President Obama's new working group to address violence against Indigenous women and children

CSVANW was recently selected as one of a handful of organizations to provide input in identifying priorities and possible actions to President Obama's new North American Working Group on Violence Against Indigenous Women and Girls, which will meet for the first time at the White House this October.

Last month, President Obama traveled to Ottawa for the North American Leaders Summit, to meet with the President of Mexico and the Canadian Prime Minister to discuss regional cooperation on a variety of topics, including defense and security. All three countries agreed to a set of commitments under various categories, with one of those commitments being to establish the new North American Working Group on Violence Against Indigenous Women and Girls.

CSVANW receives additional $47,000 in grants and contributions to CSVANW's Native youth violence prevention and early intervention initiatives!

Verizon Wireless HopeLine has generously contributed $15,000 to CSVANW's

Native youth violence prevention and early intervention initiatives. We are extremely humbled and thankful to our partners at Verizon Wireless!

Additionally, CSVANW was awarded $31,600 from the Indian Affairs Department last month to further cultivate and implement our new Native Youth violence prevention and intervention initiatives- bringing our total program funding for our Native youth

initiatives for 2016 to $90,275 from multiple grants!!! We are extremely thankful for this opportunity and look forward to the meaningful violence prevention and intervention work we will be able to do this year with our Native youth!!

Back to School Supply Drive!

CSVANW is happy to support our community partners, the Assembly of Native American Voices (ANAV), "Back to School Blessing!" on August 13, 2016!

New Mexico World Day Against TRAFFICKING IN PERSONS!

In a collaborative effort to bring awareness to trafficking, the United Nations World Day Against Human Trafficking in Persons

took place at the Albuquerque Civic plaza! The event promoted awareness about women and children being trafficked in the state of New Mexico!

Also, a HUGE shout out to our amazing community partners, NACA Radical Poets, Elizabeth Stahmer & IAIA family, and Sherri Willeto for speaking & singing on behalf of CSVANW. We thank you immensely for your presence!

For a regular full-time, Registered Nurse (Family Advocacy).

Salary range: $29.20-$36.50/hourly

Hours/week: 40 hrs/week; plus on-call-standby after hours, weekends & holidays.

The nurse who applies for the position must be a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) or be willing to become SANE-A and SANE-P trained and certified while on the job. For more information, Click here

Hours: 8:30AM-5:00PM, Additional hours will be necessary to fulfill job responsibilities.

EIA Fellow is seeking help with her project.

Neomi Gilmore (2016 EIA Fellow) has started a pilot project with Sylvia Andrew, a Professor at UNM-Gallup, to deputize domestic violence advocates. She is seeking help with her project.

How can we help? She is looking for volunteers such as attorneys, judges, advocates and anyone willing to help organize mock hearings.

Untested rape kits: Clearing New Mexico's backlog by Devona Bradford.

If you've watched the news lately you may have seen the story on New Mexico's backlog of sexual assault evidence kits. There are currently over 5,000 untested kits, dating back to 1980's. New Mexico is currently working with a number of partners, including the state auditor and law enforcement, to get these kits tested. Why is it important to test these kits?
