Viscosity Monotype/Monoprint
with Joyce Zavorskas
Friday, Saturday & Sunday August 12-14     9am - 2pm
$180 (includes $30 materials fee)
Location: Joyce Zavorskas Studio
Monotypes are paintings on smooth acrylic plates transferred to paper once only using a manual press. Monoprints are paintings on textured plates transferred to paper once only. Textures and linear marks in the plate create repetitive elements that appear with each print. Students generate a spontaneous flow of related ideas in one printing session, to be explored later in oil paintings or in additional prints. Viscosity (means flowability of a liquid) inks are modified with oil or driers to be oily or stiff, so that one color repels another, with amazing results. Students are encouraged to make each print different, not to make an edition of exact replicas. An evocative, personal theme emerges with each print session. Plates may be acrylic with incised lines, cardboard plates with organic matter sealed with gel medium, previously etched metal plates, or carved woodblocks. Note: Clean-up will be with vegetable oil or Simple Green.
