1. Best Practices: Is Your Organization Resilient?
Four Helpful Briefs from the S.D. Bechtel, Jr. Foundation
In preparation for its planned 2020 sunset, the California-based S.D. Bechtel, Jr. Foundation has been researching the best strategies to ensure its grantees can sustain themselves well into the future. The answer, they discovered, is to become resilient.

After reading the literature and consulting with experts, other foundations and their grantees, the Foundation staff created seven "resiliency factors": Culture of Learning, Talent & Leadership, Context (Outside-In Thinking), Planning & Execution, Reputation & Communications, Partnership & Alliances, and Financial Footing.

They outline these factors in their new Resiliency Guide.

Other briefs include an interview with Ashley Boren, Executive Director of Sustainable Conservation - a grantee who benefited from the Foundation's investment in their resiliency; a bibliography of useful sources Foundation partner Monitor Institute researched; and an interview with Barbara Kibbe, Director of Organizational Effectiveness for the Foundation, and consultant Ruth Norris.
