From Contract to Called Minister

Last Sunday, Ann McCrow outlined the difference between a contract minister (which Rev. Russ is now) and a called or settled minister who is "a vested leadership partner, mutually engaged with the congregation for the fulfillment of its long-term mission."   The Mutual Discernment Committee has been reconvened to oversee and guide the call process, and to plan a special congregational meeting for the sole purpose of voting to offer a call to settlement to Russ.  For the full text of this presentation, click here .

Next week, Ian Hunter will talk more specifically about the financial considerations regarding the recommendation to approve drawing from our reserves to bring Russ' salary to full-time.

Fellowship Work Day
Saturday, August 6, 9:30 - 11:30 AM

Our monthly Fellowship Work/Fun Day will be this Saturday, August 6, 9:30-11:30. It's not required, but it would be helpful to contact Bob Bates if you plan to attend ( [email protected]).  We could especially use some volunteers to help with painting of trim areas.

August Book Club
    Tuesday August 16th at 7pm.

The Bee Keepers Apprentice by Laurie King.
In 1915, Sherlock Holmes is retired and quietly engaged in the study of honeybees in Sussex when a young woman literally stumbles onto him on the Sussex Downs.   Fifteen years old, gawky, egotistical, and recently orphaned, the young Mary Russell displays an intellect to impress even Sherlock Holmes.
Full of brilliant deduction, disguises, and danger, The Beekeeper's Apprentice, the first book of the Mary Russell-Sherlock Holmes mysteries, is "remarkably beguiling" (The Boston Globe).

We usually spend about an hour talking about our  book of the month.
We would love to have you join us!

Inter-Faith Shower Project - Chili Cook-Off next steps!

It's been several months since we came together as a community to make and then eat fabulous chill to raise funds for the area "Showers for the Homeless" project.  Over $11,000 was raised.  This interfaith collaboration is moving along!  A small group from the Fellowship has been meeting monthly with members from other local churches and temples to plan and realize next steps...

Small Group Ministry
NEW GROUP STARTING IN SEPTEMBER

Small Group Ministry provides an opportunity to pursue deeper spiritual questions, to be further challenged to social action and spiritual growth, and to express Unitarian Universalist principles in the congregation and in the larger community. With 8-10 people, it allows us to use deep listening to be present in each other's lives in an open, supportive, and nurturing environment.

A new group will begin meeting the week of September 5.  Non-members are welcome to apply. Please pick up a registration form on Sunday or at the Fellowship Office. The final date to register is Monday, August 15.
Questions?  Bonnie McDonald at [email protected] or sign up on-line here.
