Thank you, Sarah Olson!
Sarah Olson, Superintendent of the Roosevelt-Vanderbilt-VanBuren National Historic Sites has retired this past month after 17 years of dedicated service to the Historic Sites and 42 years with the National Park Service. Under Sarah's leadership, the National Park grew by 42%, in the process acquiring several significant properties, including the Red House and the forest parcel that allowed the development of the Roosevelt Farm Lane trail. The trail once again unified the Roosevelt property and has become the most popular trail in the park. Sarah's vision extended beyond the National Park. She brought to life the Hudson River Valley National Heritage Area's Teaching in the Hudson Valley education program, helping more than 13,000 K-12 students and their teachers visit cultural, historic and natural places in the National Heritage Area. Sarah also developed Bus on Us grants, helping to cover costs for more than 3,000 student visitors on educational trips to Hyde Park's historic sites. The Greenway and National Heritage Area deeply appreciated Sarah's leadership and partnership and extend our warmest congratulations on her retirement.

Celebrate 100 years with National Park Service!
Help commemorate a century of beautiful parks with the National Park Service Landscape Conservation in the Hudson River Valley with this  day-long conference. The conferences will include a history of conservation efforts, inspiring examples, and a stakeholder process that will capture shared values related to regional conservation and conclude with a report of preliminary findings which will discuss a current conservation study being conducted by the Regional Plan Association and the Benjamin Center at SUNY New Paltz.

Highland Landing Kayak Launch
Highland Landing Park
Highland Landing Park is located in the town of Lloyd, in Ulster County. When the facility went out of business, Scenic Hudson and the Town worked together to buy it. The park has been built mostly by local volunteers using donated materials. Hudson River Valley Greenway has provided grants to repair the bulkhead, install a composting toilet, and most recently, create a kayak launch which was installed earlier this summer. The park is currently managed by a not-for-profit created by the Town. Visit the Highland Landing Park webpage   for more information.
