Community Gardens Get New Signs and Benches

All three community garden sites now feature beautiful new signs and comfortable and sturdy garden benches. Many thanks to Garden Committee member Randy Lueth, landscape architect, for installing the garden signs. Thanks also to Marshfield Young Professionals, Rotary, First Presbyterian Church Green Team, and Kiwanis for sponsoring a garden bench. Sponsorships are still available at $100 each for the benches, which were built by the Career and Technical Education class at Marshfield High School. If you or your organization is interested in sponsoring a bench please contact us at [email protected] or at 715-221-8400. Feel free to visit any of the garden sites and peek at all the different plants and veggies. For more information including garden locations, visit our community garden page
Tips for Active Living

Sneak Exercise into Your Routine
If you always find yourself skipping exercise because you run out of time, try these sneaky tips to get more movement in your day. Including short periods of moderate activity throughout the day adds up!

Turn your Commute into a Workout
Ditch the car for a day and walk, jog, or bike to work. If your place of work isn't close to home or need your car during the day, park your vehicle at the end of the parking lot or down the street to create space to walk.

Work out in the Office
Swap out your office chair for a stability ball. Take calls standing up. Bring a pair of dumbbells and do a few reps during periods of downtime. Schedule a walk break during lunch. Take the stairs. Get creative, and you'll find there's many small things you can do at work to boost your activity levels.

Make it a Social Event
If you're someone with a lot of social commitments to keep, try turning a family outing, date, or hangout into a workout. Play with your kids in the park, invest in a jogging stroller if you have small children to watch, take a friend on a scenic bike ride, challenge your significant other to a tennis match. If none of these sound appealing to you or your social group, try scouring the YMCA and Parks and Rec websites for other fitness opportunities.

Set up exercise equipment around the TV
If you like to unwind each day by watching a TV show or two, surround your TV viewing area with a yoga mat, weights, resistance bands, exercise bike, or elliptical machine. You can squeeze in exercise while indulging in an otherwise guilty pleasure.

Chores
Walking the dog, cleaning the house, even washing the car all require some level of physical exertion. Don't forget to count the time you spend doing chores or house maintenance projects as minutes towards your physical activity for the day!
