Preparing for our 31st year

One thing that is constant this time of the year in the South is "The Heat" and Selwood is no different. We have had a busy Summer and have enjoyed seeing many of you that have come out to shoot with us this Summer at Selwood. We have been giving many" farm tours" for prospective members and hope that if you are considering Selwood as your venue for shooting, hunting , events and entertaining those special clients, please give us a call to schedule your tour. You will not be disappointed!

Hard work pays off!

We have been working very hard to make the upcoming hunting season the best so far. We have been focused on many improvements. With the new "Summer House" complete, many enhancements to our hunting areas and a brand new kennel, we are excited to offer new and improved member privileges to you this season. We look forward to another great year with you!


	Helice on the Rise!

Please come join us for another exciting monthly helice race. Our next race is scheduled for Saturday, August 20th.

The cost of $120.00 and includes lunch, beverages, 30 targets from 27 meters, and $20.00 going to the purse which will pay 50/30/20.

Registration - 8:00, Practice - 8:30, Race begins at 9:00.

Remember this event includes lunch and is limited to 25 shooters. Call or email our office to reserve your spot.

*Non-shooters and/or guests lunches with beverage fee of $25.00.

Selwood's Country House offers restful and relaxing accommodations. From private rooms to spacious decks and porches, the Country House is ideal for comfort and relaxation. Although we are not a bed-n-breakfast, our lodge includes 5 bedrooms with private baths, available for rental to hunters and sporting enthusiasts.

Our Smokehouse and Meeting Rooms offer an adjoining double occupancy bedroom. There is a lovely private bathroom and also private access to the porch and the porch fireplace.

The Summer House is the perfect place for that outdoor feel with the comfort of a roof over your head. You will be sure to enjoy a breath of fresh air as you look out over our beautiful Helice course and our 5 Stand. We are sure that The Summer House will be a favorite spot to many!

We have been very blessed by the recent rain which has put the farm in exceptional shape for the upcoming hunting season.

Zach has been very busy and added lots of great plantings this summer. He has planted Grain Sorghum in all the hunting fields. Sorghum provides the quail a season long feed supplement as well as providing dense cover for protection from predation. We have a great crop of sweet Silver Queen and a gorgous field of sunflowers of the Peredovik variety. Peredovik is known for yielding high amounts of seed.

Our brand new kennel will be opening this fall and will be available for short and long- term boarding. Special pricing will be offered as a member privilege. More details on the new kennel in our fall newsletter.

Shooters tip of the month...

See the bird before you move the gun:

Most of you know that at Selwood we take the fundamentals of shooting very seriously. I have found that when I get stumped on a target or simply hit a wall the fundamentals will always pull you out of the ditch.

One important fundamental is seeing the bird before moving the gun. A term that I use regularly is getting in sync with the bird. You cannot get in sync by moving the gun before seeing the target. If you are trying to increase your score or simply trying to brush up on your shooting please give us a ring to schedule a lesson.

Shooting a shotgun can be frustrating if you don't have a basic understanding of the proper fundamentals.
