VOLUNTEER HIGHLIGHTS

VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT
Raquel Neal

Tell us a little about yourself.
"I'm 16 years old and attend Discovery Canyon Campus. I've been involved in school clubs throughout high school such as Student Senate and Hope Club. I also have served with special needs students as a peer partner at school and a volunteer at New Life Church."

What do you appreciate about volunteering at Special Kids Special Families?
"I've been going to Zach's Place for over a year now and I find joy at every chance I get to spend my time with the kids! I plan to continue working with the disabled as I grow up and hopefully pursue in a career that involves it."

We are so grateful to Raquel, and individuals like her that make Special Kids Special Families a special place to serve and grow.

VOLUNTEER GROUP HIGHLIGHTS

Volunteers from FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, located at 219 East Bijou Street in Colorado Springs, graciously donated their time during their week long volunteer "mission stay".  According to Allen Hunter, Student Ministries Lead,
"Our group is 6th-9th graders with the student ministries of First Pres. Each year we have a "mission stay" where we stay at the church overnight and serve in the community during the day. We want to expose students to different things in our community and let them know they can make a difference with their time and energy. It has been a privilege to be able to return to the same place year after year and build long-term relationships and see how things change."

The groups helped with cleaning, yard work, organizing, and playing with the kids at Zach's Place. They also went shopping to purchase some things on our needs and dreams list.   Other volunteers activities included, helping stuff event letters,  making our kiddos tic-tac-toe games out of wood and painted rocks and helping organize some wonderful gifts that were donated to Zach's Place from Walmart.

Thanks again 1st Presbyterian volunteers for all your hard work and dedication to SKSF & Zach's Place!   See you next year!

Catholic Diocese volunteer group called MISSION POSSIBLE, is a group of 80 middle school and high school students from various Catholic churches throughout the Colorado Springs area.   According to Hannah, Group Lead, " We have committed to a week of service in the Springs. We split into small groups and are sent to different locations each day. So blessed and thankful to have been a part of your community! Our kids learned so much and grew so much yesterday. T hanks for the opportunity to serve at Zach's Place."

The first volunteer group helped out at Zach's Place by pulling weeds, cleaning, and playing with our kiddos. It was such a great day and our kiddos all had huge smiles on their faces all day!   Our second group was just as wonderful as the first group! They helped us pull more weeds (and there are still more to pull if you are interested in volunteering)... they cleaned, stuffed envelopes, and they played with our kiddos.

Thank you Mission Possible! It is always such a treat to see young people with big hearts to serve!
