Our Mission: To care for anyone experiencing the impact
of a life-threatening illness or grieving the death of a loved one.
Summer is a special time for children. However, the magic of the season may be lost on a child who has been devastated by the death of a loved one. Months that would have otherwise been filled with trips to the pool or time with friends could instead be spent fluctuating between feelings of isolation, anger and guilt. Children grieve differently than adults and their journey in healing requires a different approach. Untended grief can increase depression and anxiety symptoms.

I'm proud of the work our Children & Family Services staff and volunteers have done with kids going through these difficult times. The goal of our programs are to normalize their feelings, let them know they are heard and cared for, and to assist them on their journey to live healthy and happy lives.  Seeing the smiles slowly return to these young faces is one of the greatest joys we experience.

Be well,
David Selberg, CEO

Advance Care Planning Community Workshop at HSB

The Alliance for Living and Dying Well in partnership with HSB volunteers will host a free community workshop at Hospice of Santa Barbara Aug. 18 to help facilitate important conversations about end-of-life wishes. Trained professionals and volunteer staff will be on hand to support community members in completing ad vance health care directives.

Having an up-to-date advanced care directive is one of the best ways to insure end of life wishes are honored, such as under what circumstances would you wish to have life support or be resuscitated. People over the age of 18 are advised to develop an advanced care directive and u pdate them periodically up dated, as situations, beliefs and wishes change over time.

Completing your Advanced Care Directive is also a gift to your loved ones. It will be some comfort for them to know clearly what your wishes are if you cannot tell them at a critical time.
Notary services are available upon request.

Date: Thursday, August 18. Workshops every 3rd Thursday each month.
Time:  4-6 pm
Location: Hospice of Santa Barbara  2050 Alameda Padre Serra, Suite #100, Santa Barbara 93103
