Letter from the Artistic Director...

Where did the summer go?

No, I mean it, you with the iced cappuccino that you shouldn't be drinking, tell me: Where did the summer go? It's almost back-to-school time, and we didn't get to Cedar Point, or a Mud Hens game, or even the new installment in that superhero movie franchise that wasn't as good as the last one. (Is it ever?) Not to mention purchasing your season tickets yet. Now's a perfect time. Check it out; we have a great 84th Season coming up, and you can pick your seats and attendance nights.

Sorry, I couldn't help it. Wait, that was just the appetizer, not the main thing I want to talk to you about.

It's this: We've been working to be more responsive to our patrons and our community. You'll see some new classes, social events and theatrical presentation popping up in our 84th Season. And for that trend to continue, we need to hear from you. What productions would you like to see on our Mainstage? What classes or programs would you like to see us offer? What Special Event ideas? In short, how can we serve you better?

Now don't say I didn't ask.

Set in the little village of Anatevka, the story centers on Tevye, a poor dairyman, and his five daughters. With the help of a colorful and tight-knit Jewish community, Tevye tries to marry off his daughters and instill in them a sense of tradition. This special adaptation of the nine-time Tony Award-winning Broadway musical created by Broadway legends Jerome Robbins, Harold Prince, Jerry Bock, Sheldon Harnick, and Joseph Stein, Fiddler on the Roof, Jr. tackles the universal theme of tradition in ways that reach across barriers of race, class, nationality, and religion.

Fiddler on the Roof, Jr. is presented through special arrangement with Musical Theatre International (MTI).

All ages of men and women are needed, no children under the age of 6.

All roles are open for audition

except for the role of Ebenezer Scrooge, which is precast.

Be prepared to sing 16 bars of your favorite song, does not need to be a Christmas song (accompanist provided). You may be asked to do a cold reading from the script. No prepared monologues needed.

Synopsis:

A 30-year Toledo Rep tradition! This timeless tale of redemption follows Ebenezer Scrooge as he is transformed by the spirits of Christmas Past, Present and Future from a miserly old curmudgeon into a man who embodies the true meaning of Christmas. With lavish costumes, spectacular sets and a musical score rich with carols of the era, this production is one you will not want to miss!

Eight weeks of laugh-out-loud fun-damentals! Crazy characters, silly stories, and a dash of musical mayhem. Take the first steps towards becoming the next breakout star on Saturday Night Live. Elementary edutainment in a supportive environment, culminating in a modest public performance.

Don't fear the bard! Two lively sessions explore the world of the greatest playwright in history, and give students a chance to bring his timeless verse and classic stories to life. Fascinating and fun, as well as a great foundation for the inevitable classroom work that they'll encounter later in school.

"Improv for Kids' Workshop

Our Rep Ed program is excited to offer its first ever 'Improv for Kids' Workshop!

In this family-friendly workshop, student's will study the fundamentals of improv comedy through games and exercises that help to develop strong ensemble and character work. This class will develop the student's stage presence, self-confidence, communication skills and respect for other performers and their creativity. The class culminates with a brief demonstration performance.

Ages 7-11

Further details about our Improv Program Director:

Nick Morgan trained in improv at The Second City Theater in Chicago, IL and iO (formerly Improv Olympic). He graduated the Conservatory program at The Second City, whose notable alumni include Dan Aykroyd, Joan Rivers, John Belushi, Gilda Radner, Bill Murray, John Candy, Eugene Levy, Mike Myers, Steve Carell, Stephen Colbert and Tina Fey. Nick performed improv at The Playground Theater, with longtime house team 'Wing Night' and wrote and performed his original show 'Karl Lighter's Hour of Power' at The Second City's Skybox Theater. Nick is a former Board member here at The Rep and is fortunate enough to have performed in two productions on the 10th St. Stage.

"Young Rep stages 'Fiddler on the Roof, Jr.'"

Participation in the Young Rep productions is a good way to keep busy for the summer while working as a team to create something beautiful, Reinstein said. It encourages the children to respect each other as performers, and trust each other.

Fiddler on the Roof, Jr., helps them grow as young actors because they portray different emotions - sadness, frustration, but also joy and humor, love and faith, change, and going against traditions, she added. "The performers think about feelings and emotions, about real people in real situations; they learn how adults feel."

FAME Teamed Up With D.A.R.T

On July 16, our wonderful cast and director of FAME participated in a talk back session with Lt. Bobby Chromik from D.A.R.T..

The mission of D.A.R.T is to raise awareness about the dangers associated with heroin and other drug usage and to provide assistance to those struggling with addiction in our community.

Law and Order: Fairy Tale Unit

The Toledo Repertoire Theatre is looking

for an individual to fulfill the voluntary position of Treasurer to oversee the management and reporting of our organization's finances to our Board of Trustees.

Primary duties included:

Bank account maintenance
Financial transaction oversight and management
Budget creation and management
Upholding and maintaining financial policies
Keeping the board and staff regularly informed of key financial updates, including providing monthly financial and budget reports.
Serving as Chair of the Finance Committee

Qualified Treasurer must have preferred knowledge of QuickBooks and monthly financial statements including P&L, balance sheets and cash flow; financial literacy; attention to detail; punctuality in completing tasks on time; neat and accurate record keeping and a willingness to ask questions.
