Twelfth Sunday After Pentecost
August 7, 2016

"We invite everyone to share communion around God's altar.

We strive to be a welcoming and relevant Christian community doing what matters through prayer, worship, teaching, outreach, fellowship, and service.

We will demonstrate the real life application of scripture, tradition, and
reason by providing a safe place to respond to each other's needs,
hurts, joys, and interests."

                              Our Anthem This Week:

                             A solo by Patsy Kiessling
                            Fly Like a Butterfly
                                                                 By Sue Carmichael

Come to the mountaintop,
leave all your cares behind,
He spoke so gently to me.
Lay all your burdens down,
such peace and joy you'll find
Come take my hand and you'll see.

Refrain:
You will fly, fly, fly like a butterfly,
gliding on wings of the wind,
never having to hide
deep inside your cocoon once again,
Look, world, look all around me,
my chains are gone,
I know I've been set free
I'm safely resting in Jesus again.

I listened quietly, He waited patiently
He didn't push, didn't shove,
I gave Him my sorrows,
Today's cares, tomorrow's
and He wrapped them up in His love.

Refrain

UPDATE

We need to reimagine how we can have quality children and youth programs utilizing enthusiastic volunteers of all ages and creative thinkers.  On our rolls, we have 13 nursery age children, 21 pre-k and elementary age children, and 14 teens.  I am very passionate about creating a good Episcopal-style Christian experience for all of them.  I believe that to offer anything less is negligent on my part.  I believe we can, but I need your help.

1.  Children's Chapel during the 10:30 service is one of the best things that we do and very easy to facilitate.  We need facilitators.  With a healthy group of volunteers, you would only be scheduled once every 10-12 weeks.  I can send links to resources that can assist you in planning a 25-minute Children's Chapel program that would include a lesson, story, or craft and a snack.  Please let me know if I can put you on the schedule.

2.  The next thing is that I would like to have volunteers to help us rethink what children and youth ministry should look like at Resurrection.  We need folks who are passionate about our children and youth ministry to serve as planner, facilitators, thinkers, chaperones, leaders, and teachers.  I believe that with a good handful of us, we can give our children and youth the attention, education, and experience they deserve.

If you would like to help me, Joe Cash, and Denise Dorsey figure this out, please send me a message to say that I can count on you.

Peace,
Father Scott+

And a special thank you to Mallory Nonnemaker for all her work the past 2 years and to Candina Butcher, who keeps our nursery every single Sunday.
Women's Bible Study

The women's Bible study group will continue their discussion of Twelve Women of the Bible by Lysa Terkeurst on Tuesday, August 9, at 6:00 p.m. at Mary Geidel's house, 211 Richardson Rd., Sautee Nacoochee, GA 30571

It is not too late to join the study group.  Please bring some wine or cheese to share and come prepared to have a good time and learn how these women's life-changing stories affect women today.
Congratulations to Amanda Perry

Parish Hall Update

While it's slow, rest assured the new parish hall building process is moving along.  Chris Geidel, Chuck Hampton, Fr. Scott and our builder presented the plans to the White County Planning Department this week.  The plans were accepted with two minor comments, which have been addressed.

Also, the detailed contract is being finalized, and then the plans and contract go to the Diocese for approval. Once approved, we can get the building permit and construction loan and construction can begin.  Our builder says that he can complete the building in 180 days.

The Commission on Stewardship Workshop

The Commission on Stewardship for the Diocese of Atlanta will offer a workshop for clergy and lay stewardship leaders from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Saturday, August 6, at the Cathedral of St. Philip in Room 133.

This is a great opportunity to provide scripture-based and practical training to your stewardship team.  Workshop leaders will present ideas on:
  • scriptural building blocks of Christian stewardship
  • resources for organizing your annual stewardship program
  • designs for tailoring stewardship communications to generational groups
  • reasons for giving
  • a framework for starting a year-round stewardship program
  • ways to start holy stewardship conversations in your parish.
We are excited about stewardship.  We encourage you to bring your whole stewardship team and find out why!

There is no charge for this workshop and lunch will be provided.  Please register before August 1st.  Registration is available online hereIf you have any questions, please contact Tammy Pallot at  tammypallot@gmail.com .

Anti-Racism Training
September 24, 2016 9:00-4:00

The Anti-Racism Training model of the Episcopal Church is designed to make us all more aware of how society's racist past still haunts us today. Through self-examination and sharing our stories, we come to learn more about how our behavior affects others, and how our society, institutions and churches affect how we think and feel about others. After anti-racism training, you will never watch the news the same again!  More information

Resurrection is hosting the next training for the Northeast Convocation on Saturday, September 24, from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.  Dr. Catherine Meeks will facilitate the training.

Since 1991, General Convention has committed the Episcopal Church to address racism within our church, society and the world. We all recognize when obvious racism, discrimination or oppression occurs, but many of us are completely unaware of the subtle racism that occurs everyday all around us and how we are involved in perpetuating it. To better educate ourselves about the underlying racism in our daily lives and institutions, all lay and ordained leaders in the Episcopal Church are required to attend anti-racism training. Each and every member of the church can also be involved in the effort to end the institutional racism that exists in the church. Together we can make our church a welcoming place, devoid of racism and any form of prejudice and discrimination.

Working together for justice.
