I Will Send Rain
by Rae Meadows

Steinbeck's immortal Joad family decided to leave their desperate lives in the Oklahoma Dust Bowl. The Bell family in this emotionally potent new novel elect to stay, placing their faith in God and in each other to sustain them until rain renews the parched land. But, as the hellish storms smother everything in a layer of dust, determination begins to be eroded by despair and resolve becomes resignation. The endurance of this particular family is eloquent testimony to the power of the human spirit. - Alden Graves

From a brilliant new literary voice comes a groundbreaking exploration of how trails help us understand the world from tiny ant trails to hiking paths that span continents, from interstate highways to the Internet.

A fascinating read for anyone trying to understand the increasingly complex world we live in. Ramo, of Age of the Unthinkable fame, posits that the power in the world has evolved from traditional actors like nations to diffuse networks. Networks, and networks of networks, and the overlapping complexity they create are the driving forces of the future. Interesting reading for all and a must-read for anyone in power. - Chris Morrow

When Mrs. Creasy suddenly goes missing in a small English neighborhood during the summer of 1976, two schoolgirls and chums, Grace and Tillie decide to find her. Inspired by the vicar's sermon, they also determine to find God. Rumors and secrets abound behind closed doors, as the girls close in on the truth. The characters in this debut novel will touch your heart. - Amy Palmer

After murdering the tyrannical owner of the land they farmed
on  the Georgia/Alabama border, three
brothers make a desperate run for Canada, managing along the way to acquire national reputations as the kind of ruthless outlaws that are immortalized in dime store novels. This is a rollicking and ribald adventure story, populated with shady characters and told in vivid, sparkling prose. Reminiscent of Patrick DeWitt's  The Sisters Brothers  and there is hardly a higher compliment.

Return
By Aaron Becker

Welcome the much-anticipated finale of Caldecott Honoree Aaron Becker's wordless trilogy a spectacular, emotionally satisfying story that brings its adventurer home.
Failing to get the attention of her busy father, a lonely girl turns back to a fantastic world for friendship and adventure. It's her third journey into the enticing realm of kings and emperors, castles and canals, exotic creatures and enchanting landscapes. This time, it will take something truly powerful to persuade her to return home, as a gripping backstory is revealed that will hold readers in its thrall. Becker delivers a suspenseful and moving climax to his wordless trilogy, an epic that began with the award-winning Journey and continued with the celebrated follow-up Quest.

What the Dead Want
By Norah Olson

Haunting photographs and dark family secrets make this second spine-tingling novel from Norah Olson the perfect read for fans of creepy, suspenseful teen fiction.
A love of photography, an old camera, and countless questions these are all that sixteen-year-old Gretchen has left of her mother, who mysteriously disappeared years ago.
Now she must return to the place where her mom vanished; a decaying mansion that Gretchen has suddenly inherited. However, Gretchen won't find the answers she's seeking without unraveling the secrets that lurk inside the house.  But when proof of the mansion's dark history appears to Gretchen in the form of ghostly visions and the soft, eerie whisper of her mother's voice, there's no doubt that something sinister has taken place there.

Each month Northshire Bookstore's award-winning booksellers will select the perfect book and send it to your friend, loved one or yourself!

Greetings,
This is not a normal beginning to August. This year Harry Potter has revisited us with the play, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child . Both stores had great fun entertaining kids aged 1-79 with midnight release parties filled with fun activities and games and, of course, lots of magic. Thank you to our incredible staff for pulling this all together. If you missed the party, we have the book (20% off) in both stores and online.
These parties create memories that last a lifetime. We still have grownups come into the store telling us how much fun it was when they were a kid and book 4 or 5 came out and they stayed up late at the bookstore having a blast while waiting for the book, and then going home and reading until all hours of the morning.
Amazon.com does not create memories or community or discovery; nor do they nurture young readers by matching them with just the right book at the right time. I hope you make it into one of our stores this summer to enjoy the serendipity of browsing and discovering titles you might not have known existed. And feel free to ask a bookseller if you want help.
Thank you for your support!

Chris Morrow

Meet National Book Award Finalist and New York Times best selling author Ali Benjamin, as she talks about her popular - and critically acclaimed - debut novel The Thing About Jellyfish.
After her best friend dies in a drowning accident, Suzy is convinced that the true cause of the tragedy must have been a rare jellyfish sting-things don't just happen for no reason. Retreating into a silent world of imagination, she crafts a plan to prove her theory--even if it means traveling the globe, alone. Suzy's achingly heartfelt journey explores life, death, the astonishing wonder of the universe...and the potential for love and hope right next door.

History was made at the 2015 Belmont Stakes when American Pharoah won the Triple Crown, the first since Affirmed in 1978. As magnificent as the champion is, the team behind him has been all too human while on the road to immortality. American Pharoah is the definitive account not only of how the ethereal colt won the Kentucky Derby, Preakness, and Belmont Stakes, but how he changed lives. Through extensive interviews, Drape explores the making of an exceptional racehorse, chronicling key events en route to history. Covering everything from the flamboyant owner's successful track record, the jockey's earlier heartbreaking losses, and the Hall of Fame trainer's intensity, Drape paints a stirring portrait of a horse for the ages and the people around him.

A Rooster Named Lorenz

A favorite read-aloud for the very young. The versification adds musical undertones while imposing structure on the narrative. Reader, be warned, you may end up singing/yodeling this story.
