Dear Neighbors,

The 18th District of the Chicago Police Department has issued a  notice  about five armed robberies in our Ward last month which may be related. In these incidents, two offenders approached a victim, displayed a handgun and took personal property at the following locations:
  • 1200 Block of W. Belden on Sunday, July 24th at 5:00 PM
  • 1700 Block of N. Cleveland on Wednesday, July 27th at 7:00 AM
  • 1600 Block of N. Burling on Thursday, July 28th at 10:30 PM
  • 1900 Block of N. Clybourn on Saturday, July 30th at 5:00 AM
  • 2000 Block of N. Dayton on Saturday, July 30th at 12:00 AM
Obviously, we are extremely concerned about these incidents.  18th District Commander Paul Bauer has assured me he is assigning additional tactical teams to our regular complement of beat patrols. If you have any information about these robberies please call Area Central Detectives at 312-787-8382.

Additionally, the 19th District has issued a  notice  about three CTA robberies during July. In these incidents, the below offenders  robbed CTA passengers either on the train or at the station. The offenders displayed a black handgun, sprayed the victim with pepper spray and either exited at the next stop, or jumped the turnstile and fled the station. The   incident that took place in our ward was at the Fullerton Station  on Sunday, July 24th at 5:00 PM.

Please take extra precautions by locking your doors, windows and cars and, remember to always be aware of your surroundings.  We are the eyes of the neighborhood, so, if you see something suspicious dial 9-1-1 immediately.
Updated Short-Term Rental Opt-Out Form

As part of the new Short Term Rental Ordinance which passed this Summer,
the Department of Business and Consumer Affairs is offering an  updated affidavit to opt-out of STRS and place your building on the "prohibited buildings" list.  Here are the instructions. I encourage all rental buildings, condo and co-op buildings and townhouse associations to consider this issue carefully and, if you want to "opt out," submit this form.

If your association would like to schedule a seminar on compliance with the new STR regulations, contact  us.
