College Israel Encounter
Wednesday, August 17 at 7:00 PM
Attention all high school juniors, seniors, college students and their parents!   This program provides an opportunity to learn, discuss and ask questions about the Boycott, Divest and Sanctions (BDS) movement, which spurred 15 campus divestment resolutions last year. While these resolutions are largely unsuccessful, this program is focused on educating students and helping provide language and strategies for civil discourse.

Students from diverse universities, along with high school juniors and seniors, are invited to join together for this event, to
create communal learning and support for each other. A parallel track is provided for parents of students, so register together.

Temple Emanu-El is a community partner for this event. Registration: johannam@standwithus.com.

Local Food Crisis: We Need Your Help!
This year the FEMA National Emergency Food and Shelter Board (EFSP) withheld its annual allocation ($775,000 in 2015) to Santa Clara County as it did not meet their criteria used to determine allocations. Because of Santa Clara County's astronomical housing rate we have
many people living in poverty - even if our actual poverty rate is above the federal standard used by EFSP. Our County's EFSP Board is seeking an appeal, but unless that appeal is approved, Jewish Family Services doesn't have the funds ($48,000 in 2015) for our food package program.

We need to collect over 12,000 pounds of kosher food and we need your help to make this happen.  Bring non-perishable items to the donation bins at Temple Emanu-El throughout the month of August.

For more information, please contact Sheila Monheit at sheilam@jfssv.org or 408.357.7451. You may also click here.
