President's Message

Donna Broderick
"There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work, and learning from failure."  Colin Powell

We thank those members who have worked on committees this past year. Whether you served on a CIRC, event planning, Focus Area, membership, marketing, or recruiting committee the results of your hard work and preparation are hard to miss and greatly valued by Impact 100! You demonstrate The Power of Women IMPACTing our Community.

We celebrate the achievements of our most recent grant recipients as we prepare to award grants to FOUR new recipients. Last year's grant recipients - Freestore Foodbank, Activities Beyond the Classroom, May We Help, and SELF - have all begun to put their grant money into action, and are already making an IMPACT in the community.

We applaud the seven wonderful Finalists who have also achieved success because of hard work and preparation. I encourage you to learn more about the Finalists and the transformational programs/projects they are proposing. The Executive Summaries of the seven Finalists are posted in the 'Members Only' section of our website. If you do not recall the password to access this confidential information please contact us at [email protected] as they will not be printed at the Annual Awards Celebration this year.

We are all excited for the 15th Annual Awards Celebration (AAC) on September 13th at the Cintas Center.  We have a few special ideas planned as we celebrate our anniversary! Always the highlight of the Impact 100 year, you can listen to the Finalists as they speak about the transformation they dream of bringing to life with the award of a grant. In addition, we encourage you to cast your vote, meet other Impact 100 members, thank our generous sponsors, enjoy a delicious meal, and then see which organizations are awarded our 2016 Grant Awards.  You won't want to miss this Awards Celebration - we will award FOUR grants of $101,500 each!!

We hope you are enjoying your Impact 100 experience, and that you choose to continue to make a difference in the community through your membership.  Please take a moment and renew your membership in the very near future.  We'd love to count on you for next year.

You can also help us by sharing your passion about the work Impact 100 does with others. Through your help we can reach our goal of awarding FIVE Grants in 2017 - and "THRIVE with FIVE". We thank you for your assistance!

Please remember to register for our 15th Annual Awards Celebration and invite your friends today!!!

  All the best,
Donna Neyer Broderick
Impact 100 President

Are You in for 2017?
We have a great start on recruiting new members for our 2017 grant year but we need your help to increase our efforts to help us reach 500 members and five $100,000 grants!

Here's 5 ways you can help:

1) Invite a friend(s) to the annual awards celebration on 9/13. Save the date!
2) Invite a friend(s) to the October 7th Beers with Elaine- Save the date!
3) Share this newsletter with friend(s) and share your personal Impact 100 experience
4) Encourage others to learn more about Impact 100 via social media
5) Offer to host, or co-host with friends, an info session - we make it easy by providing a "spread the word" toolkit!

If every one of us invited just one friend, and she joined, we would be able to make 5 or more grants in 2017!

Contact  [email protected]  for more information.

Nonprofit Input Session
Over 40 of our nonprofit community partners attended our FIRST EVER Nonprofit Input Event on July 27th.  Impact 100 learned much about funder/fund-ee relationships, greatest funding needs in our community, and best practices. We are inspired by the good work nonprofits do in our community and we hope to grow with you to make a larger impact on the community we all love.  Thank you everyone who participated!

Here is an update from Literacy Network - about their Literacy Network Class Expansion

Adult Classes: After the third progress monitor screening in June, students in these two classes averaged a 1.3 grade level increase in word attack skills. We will complete their final screening in December. This will be the end of the funding, though we plan to continue the class and students who are not ready to move on are welcome to continue. The goal to reach a 2 grade level average increase by December is still very feasible!

Children's Classes: Overall, we began the year with 4 classes of 30 total students and plan to start next year with 3 classes of 22 students. This still exceeds the number of students in our original proposal (2 classes of 16-20 students) and we are pleased with the individual progress we are seeing.  After one year in the program, students averaged a .8 grade level increase in word attack skills. As a reminder, word attack measures phonetic awareness and accuracy by utilizing nonsense words. Both our Education Directors and the schools we work with agree this is a key indicator to reading progress and value the information we share with them. This goal falls a little short of the one grade level a year we hope for, but both schools started a month or two after the start of the school year, so falling slightly short can be expected. Next year, both schools should start earlier, improving results. These gains are still amazing for these students, who have struggled severely in reading.
