Revive Your Home This Spring

Spring has finally arrived and, for that, I think many of us are thankful. A sure sign of spring is the revival of our surroundings. During this season, more than any other time of year, we see an increase in homeowners' desires to change their living space. Tastes, trends and lifestyles evolve over time, which all contribute to this yearning for change.

Recently, we worked with clients whose dream was to increase the living space in their 1940s colonial to accommodate their young, active family. This comprehensive home project was more than just multilevel interior renovations. The footprint was expanded to include new roof lines, entryways and a new two-story living space addition. Since this client was already aligned with an architect, our role was to marry the architect's drawings with the homeowners' vision.

Homework Station Details of this project were anticipated and addressed early on. Judi, our in-house Interior Architectural Designer, worked closely with the homeowner to maintain the architect's vision while integrating functionality and flow in specific areas such as the kitchen. Appliance selections and storage space were carefully considered to best accommodate the needs of the homeowner.

In other parts of the home, emphasis was placed on function and practicality. Anticipation of future use and attending to details are essential in any home project. For example, one discussion led to redesigning a specific area in which a proposed window seat became a more practical built-in homework station for their children.

There were many other exciting facets of this extensive renovation including:

  • New, enlarged two-car garage, powder room, mudroom and family room
  • First floor office
  • New back stairway, connecting the family room to the second story
  • Exquisite master suite with stone fireplace, master bath with sun drenching windows, and walk-in closet with custom millwork
  • Conveniently located laundry room, homework station, Jack and Jill bathroom, en suite bathroom and playroom
