Hello Green Building Advocates! Victory is in the air.

Last night, the MA Legislature wrapped up the session after a weekend flourish of procedure and the results included an energy bill. There is a lot to be happy about, a lot to be annoyed at.

On the positive: we have a huge new mandate for offshore wind energy, and hydro procurement, and most importantly: commercial PACE (C-PACE) has made it through, with the provision that renewable installations qualifying for financing in addition to retrofits. Rockin'!

We did not see victory for residential PACE nor the home energy audit provision, and the growth of the renewable portfolio standard will not go forward as fast as we (and the Senate) wanted. Overall, though, it's great that so much has been updated and authorized. Read more about it here. Of course, as Sen. Rosenberg said, we'll have more to do in January when the Legislature convenes again for the next session.

Thank you to all who helped push for strong energy policy in Massachusetts and for the provisions that will benefit our green building industry. Our Advocacy Committee will review, with our allies, what next steps to take and how to position our efforts for the coming state elections. Stay tuned as we determine our next priorities, having won on C-PACE and our other priorities this cycle.

Happy summer to you all!

Thank you again for your commitment to our mission,

Grey
