Message from the Chairman

By the time you read this newsletter, the Farmer's Market will have completed another successful summer run. July 30th was the final day of this year's market, and we had a great time despite the unrelenting heat! Many thanks to our wonderful vendors, the Chamber of Commerce representatives who volunteered their time to make the market run smoothly, the patrons who supported the market, and the City of Thomson for again allowing us to use the Depot and assisting in the logistics to get the market up and running.

I'd like to extend a special "Thank You!" to Scoutmaster Bill Hopkins & the Boy Scouts of Troop #125. This year the scouts (& parents) volunteered to setup and take down the tables for the market each Saturday. In addition, they also churned ice cream, provided breakfast biscuits, and helped in every way possible to make the market an even bigger success.

We have the Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament scheduled for Friday, September 23rd at Belle Meade. Please mark your calendars & plan to participate!

Thomson Farmers Market Comes to a Close

The Thomson Farmers Market came to a close this past Saturday.  Even though it was an unusually hot Summer, the community came out consistently to support our local growers.  This was no doubt a success and a positive for Thomson.

Several have asked for information on some of the vendors that were at the market, and we want you to know that they will be posting to the Thomson Farmers Market Facebook page.  Even though the market is closed until next Summer, we want you to still have access to these vendors and also help support them in their endeavors.

Again, THANK YOU McDuffie County for supporting your Chamber and the Thomson Farmers Market!
Get Ready for the Camellia City Festival!

Plans are in place to hold the Camellia City Festival (formerly known as the Festival Off Main) December 3rd.  Invitations have been sent out to vendors of all types, and we're already receiving applications back to attend!  We are also reaching out to local businesses, churches, schools and civic organizations to participate in this event to create a fun-filled day for the citizens of McDuffie County and surrounding counties.

We will continue to have the Tree Lighting Ceremony the Thursday before the festival at the Thomson Depot.  Also, we'll have the Breakfast with Santa, Tour of Homes and the Christmas Parade.  So go ahead and make your plans for the 1st weekend in December to create Christmas magic in downtown Thomson.

Please contact the Chamber to find out how to get involved or click here for more information

Tourism Update

The Thomson-McDuffie County Tourism Board has placed an audio interpretation box at the Wrightsboro Church. The next time you are in the area, stop by and learn about the migration of the settlers to the area, William Bartram's travels through the area, the Creek Indians and frontier life, and what happened to the area after the Quakers left. Look for more of these boxes coming in the future!
White Hills Farm's Farm Friday events have become so popular, they will continue year round. Demonstrations are held at 10am in the Lavender Barn and you can stop by to purchase products anytime between 10am and 6pm on Fridays. Proprietor, Lisa Kessler was recently the featured artisan at William Sonoma in Augusta. Come out and learn a little (or a lot) about herbs!

Thomson-McDuffie Tourism Advisory Board

We're looking for a few talented and conscientious volunteer board members to lead and strengthen the Thomson-McDuffie Tourism Advisory Board. If you can contribute your time, thoughtfulness, and leadership one day a month, and are interested in exploring this opportunity, please send a brief biography that includes relevant experience and how that experience will benefit Thomson-McDuffie and the local tourism community. Submissions must be suitable for distribution to the Thomson-McDuffie Tourism Board.

We're especially looking for folks who have a positive outlook on the community and a desire to create awareness within our community of the value of tourism and the products and services that we offer to our visitors.

Time Commitment: Board terms are for 3 years. Directors are required to attend nine regular scheduled Board meetings within a 12 month period.

Send your submissions to:
