Fairs and festivals
The DIA takes its show on the road-literally-to fairs and festivals all over Macomb, Oakland and Wayne counties. One way the museum provides a mobile experience is through DIA Away-an interactive classroom and exploration space housed in a 53-foot double-expandable trailer. Inside, visitors discover some of the ways artists think and then try out creative thinking skills at digital and hands-on stations. In addition to DIA Away, the museum sends studio staff artists to local events to provide art-making workshops for fair and festivalgoers of all ages.

Last year the DIA traveled to more than 50 fairs and festivals in the tri-county area, with nearly 20 in Wayne County alone. August's warm weather makes this month a perfect time to be out and about. Come see us at these upcoming events in your county:

In Search of the Truth (The Truth Booth), various metro Detroit locations throughout August
The DIA is hosting the first Detroit stop of the tour of In Search of the Truth (The Truth Booth), a public artwork, in conjunction with Cranbrook Art Museum tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Truth Booth is a portable, inflatable video recording studio in the shape of a giant speech bubble. The booth's interior is equipped to record and compile video responses by people as they complete the sentence: "The truth is..." The recorded results of this project will be used to create a video installation opening at Cranbrook Art Museum in November 2016.

If tomorrow doesn't fit your schedule, you can speak your truth this Friday, Aug. 5 at the For the Love of Osborn Neighborhood Parade, which also features the DIA and the Osborn Neighborhood Alliance unveiling of the Welcome to Osborn mural, a joint project funded by a Knight Arts Challenge grant.

Unveiling of the Welcome to Osborn mural, Friday, Aug. 5

Festivities will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

ARISE Detroit! Neighborhoods Day, Saturday, Aug. 6
Celebrate the 10th annual ARISE Detroit! Neighborhoods Day at the DIA with back-to-back yoga and Zumba sessions on the museum's north lawn . At 10 a.m., instructors from the  Detroit Yoga Lab will lead an hour of slow-flow yoga with music. Following yoga, Zumba expert Yvonne Simpson will direct a full-body workout to Latin and international music beginning at 11 a.m.
