Appreciate Our Volunteers

Richard Lustic from Medina enjoys exercising regularly on The County Line Trail.  He especially appreciates the asphalt trail surface. Here he stops to thank Jim Bischoff for the great maintenance along the trail. Jim is also the head of the Depot Building at Sterling.  Thank you, Jim!

Surprises Do Pop Up

This lovely posy found a perfect place to bloom, right beside a restful bend on the County Line Trail.  Board Member Keith Winkler was cutting back weeds, but chose to let this flower keep right on blooming!

Looking Ahead
Tammy Hershberger sent us this photo from a morning walk on the future Heartland Trail section in Marshallville, looking south. Her two dogs and one cat seem to enjoy scouting it out!

This photo shows concrete being pumped in to build the footers for the north bridge

Construction work is also progressing on the trail. Portions of the trail have been graded and the foundations for the north bridge have been poured.  Excavation has begun for the south bridge

Work will continue
 into the fall.

Update on The Heartland Trail
Construction is progressing nicely on the restroom facility at the
Orrville Trailhead for the Heartland Trail.
It is on schedule for completion prior to the
Orrville Lions Club Rib & Music Fest on August 19 & 20.

The building was designed to fit in with the historic character
of the Orrville Railroad Historical Depot
.
Trail being graded near
Mineral Springs Street.

Great care has been taken to protect two old brick wells in the Blackwell Williams land.  The wells have been filled in for years, but the Ohio Historical Society wanted us to be certain they were protected from potential  damage during construction.  Here you can see that a metal plate has been placed on top of the south well, silt protection was placed around the structure, and a the area is fenced off.

RTWC WALK & ROLL WALL OF FAME

This month we feature our 2016 Chesapeake and Ohio Towpath Trail / Great Allegheny Passage Rail Trail Riders.
CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR SUCCESSFUL ADVENTURE!

L-R: Cliff Reusser, Keith Workman, Rose Jolliff, Joanne Fisher, Hank & Julie Danielson, Karen & Ted Short, Katie Donoghue, Tom  Peel, Diana & Tim Nehlen.
Missing from photo: Joshua Reusser and sag wagon drive Doug Bower.

Joanne Fisher, (R) said, "Keith Workman makes the ride easy and more than just spinning from DC to Pittsburgh. His knowledge and tidbits that he shares along the way enhance the ride.  Also,  I learned how great Americans are  (especially bikers ).   Americans should stop listening to the media's agenda for America and get out and experience how genuine and down-to-earth Americans are.  AND one is never too old to bike.  Age is only a state of mind!"

Rose Jolliff (L) said, " The C&O / GAP ride was an incredible experience for me:  the challenge,  the trail experiences, the scenery and the comaraderie combine to make this indeed 'the ride of a lifetime'!"

Ted and Karen Short said, "This was not only a super fun while challenging ride, but the historical knowledge of Keith Workman on early railroad and canal development and competition was unprecedented. A really great experience for us!!  I wish all of our bike riding RTWC members could take the time to do the trip!"

Katie Donoghue said, "I had a great time, made new friends, fulfilled one of my "bucket list" items to ride the trail from Washington to Pittsburgh.  Also, I added two new states to my goal of doing all 50 states - only 8 left!

Keith is a great leader and I'm in awe of his excellent preparations. This trip spoiled me as all the rest of my biking trips were camping.  Now I look forward to A/C, a shower and real beds!  How do I go back to putting up a tent, cold water showers, bugs and heat?"

We want to hear YOUR story!   Why do you ride?  Where do you ride? Do you walk?  Are you an equestrian? Does your family use the trails?  To be featured in this Walk & Roll Wall of Fame column, please contact us at  waynerailtotrails@gmail.com
