The
Summer Reading Program is wrapping up after a successful two months of engaging programs featuring special guests, and our extremely talented children's librarians! Early reports indicate over 5,000 children read an astounding 3,000+ hours over the last eight weeks! I'd like to extend my personal gratitude to the many local business owners that helped fuel the success of the Summer Reading Program by sponsoring the Reading Rewards portion of the program. Your generosity energized young readers from Chatham, Effingham, and Liberty Counties. I encourage our readers to support our
very generous sponsors.
The
Grand Prize this year is a
$500 Back-To-School Shopping Spree. In addition,
one lucky Summer Reader from each of the three counties we serve will receive a
$50 gift certificate good towards movies, theater presentations and concessions at the historic
Mars Theatre
in the City of Springfield. Additionally, the child who has logged the most books read this summer, will receive four (4) tickets to the
Georgia National Fair
to be held in Perry, GA this October. We will be announcing the winners online by 5 p.m. on Aug. 10, 2016. By then, most of our young readers will be back in the classroom taking on new reading challenges!
Back-To-School is the perfect time to familiarize yourself with the Research section of our website. Our
library branches and Live Oak Public Libraries staff are ready to help guide students of all ages to our many resources which include FREE daily tutoring sessions from
Tutor.com, to help learn a foreign language with the
Mango Languages system, and much more.
Our
mission is to support lifelong learning, and provide
excellent, responsive service to enrich the lives of our community members. Anything less is unacceptable. As Interim Director I want to hear not only what you love about your local library, but also your suggestions to make it eve
n better!
