Buddy Baseball Newsletter
August 2016
Hello Buddy Baseball Fans,

It's been a busy off season and I can't wait to get back on the ball fields.  Registrations are starting to come in along with new sponsors.  The registration deadline is Monday, August 29th, 6:00 pm.  Don't miss out, we are expecting a full roster of players and buddies.

We had three television appearances in July. Studio 10 Live, 10 Community and Good Day Tampa Bay.

Mark your calendars for our Meet and Greet on Saturday, September 24th.

Some schools have already started and some will be starting soon.  We hope all the kids have a great school year.

July 4th Parade
July 4th Parade
Thanks to all who came out to be in the parade!  We had a great time tossing out beads, candy and flyers to the crowd. Thanks to all who donated their old beads and it's not too early to start saving your beads for us for next year! A special thanks to Alvarez Roofing and our driver, Dennis Mueller for the use of the truck.
Registration is open!
Our fall season will start on Saturday 10/1/2016 and end 11/12/2016.  The deadline to register is Monday 8/29/2016, 6:00 pm.  Don't wait until the last minute to register.  I am expecting our rosters to be full. Here are the links to register.

Player Spotlight
Ka'Rhon Dorsey
Ka'Rhon has played 6 seasons for the Wildcats.  He is 21 years old and attends Focus Academy.  His favorite food is Shrimp Pasta and if he would be famous for something it would be for playing the keyboard.  He is one of the happiest and most energetic players in the league.
Buddy Spotlight
Buddy Cassidy Haglund - Player Andres Reyes
Cassidy is 17 years old and attends Steinbrenner High School. She has played 6 seasons and has been Andres's buddy for every season.  They talk on the phone often and do things together outside of Buddy Baseball.  Cassidy scuba dives and would like to meet Taylor Swift.  If she had a $1000 she would buy lots of Frappes at Starbucks.
Coach  Spotlight
Chris Holbrook
Chris has been with Buddy Baseball every season!  He has served as our league's Assistant Commissioner and on the Board of Directors.  Chris is also a big Florida Gator fan and  would like to swim with Great White Sharks - no cages!
Parent Spotlight

Julie Ames
Julie and her husband Jeff have three daughters. Maria and Christina are players and Anna is a buddy. All three girls are on the Mustangs. Did you know that Julie has her own radio talk show on 860AM? It's called "The Special Needs Family Hour" and airs every Sunday from 1:00 - 2:00 pm. Tune in! Here is her website. You can also listen to past shows

Sponsor Spotlight
Thanks to the TECO Energy Foundation for their Grand Slam sponsorship.  They have been with us for the past four years.   Thanks for your commitment to Buddy Baseball!

Where are they now?
April Dean
April was a player on the Ravens for many seasons and is 23 years old and enjoys each and every day!  April plays baseball with the Idlewild Champions. She is also part of Joys Chorus and goes to the Joys meetings once a month, as well as Capernaum activities at St. James Church in New Tampa.

This summer she went to VBS Camp in Leesburg spending the night at Lake Yale Conference Center. She was awarded the "Spirit Award" at the end of the camp!  April is a member of St. Timothy Catholic Church and is an Usher there.   She started working at Taco Bell in Land O' Lakes in December. Her job includes washing tables and trays, filling condiments and keeping other areas of the restaurant clean. She works on Tuesdays and Fridays from 11am - 2pm. Stop by and see her if you are in the area! April still has a heart for Buddy Baseball, the Ravens, Coach Ed and all her coaches, sponsors & Commissioner Russ!
New Teacher Breakfast
We will be setting up our Buddy Baseball table at the 19th Annual New Teachers Breakfast sponsored by The Greater Temple Terrace Chamber of Commerce on August 5th. This will be our sixth year in attendance.  A great opportunity to talk to the local school principals and school officials.
Did you know?
We just had our 7th birthday! This league was just an idea back in the summer of 2009. We have come a long way since then. Thanks to all of you for making it a success!
