The
Trustees recently had some body work done on the church bus. (There were several dents and dings that needed repair.)
Long-time trustee, Bob Kellogg, is at home and recovering well from recent knee surgery. We hope everyone is enjoying their summer. The next meeting of the trustees will be on August 3.

The
Administrative Council is continuing its work on revising the church's
mission statement, as well as creating a
vision statement and defining its

NEW NEWS! There's a new look to the church website!
The church's website
located at http://www.trinitydeland.org has been totally revamped to have a brighter look and feel, thanks to David Ross and members of the Communications Team! Now,
visitors will get a glimpse into the many varied ministries that our church has to offer. We also want
members to visit and revisit the site often to learn about coming events, pending deadlines, to download useful forms, and more.
We've included links to Trinity's new Facebook, YouTube, TripAdvisor and Twitter pages. Look for the icon links in the upper right-hand corner of the home page! Readers can "Like" our
Facebook church page, give a positive review of Trinity on
TripAdvisor, or watch videos of special music events going back to 2013 on our
YouTube channel. Our
Twitter page follows many popular United Methodist organizations (like the Florida Conference and General Conference), as well as previous pastors who like to send out "tweets." Viewers will also find back issues of our
Trinity Today newsletter.
The church calendar will always be accessible via the website, as well as through this newsletter.
Click here to go to calendar.
Hard-copies of the current newsletter can be picked up in the church office or in the Narthex on Sundays.
There's a lot going on at Trinity these days and a lot more on the horizon, so check out our website for more info!
To add or correct information seen on the calendar or on the website, contact Lori Jones at

Antiques & Collectibles
We are busy, busy this summer getting ready for the annual Fall Festival. In advance of the event, Antiques & Collectibles has decided to hold a big
"pre-sale" of stock we've had for two or more years. We will be offering these treasures at an
Indoor Yard Sale to be held in the Fellowship Hall of TUMC. The sale dates are Friday and Saturday, August 12-13 from 8 am to 1 pm each day.
Come find just the right vintage or older item for a gift or for yourself. Priced at half of what they were offered before, these treasures are excellent values!
All monies from the sale will go into the Fall Festival total for our outreach programs.
Speaking of Fall Festival, we are working each Tuesday until then and welcome your antique or vintage items. The sooner the better, so we can plot our strategies for displays at the festival
. We look for things from the '40s, '50s and earlier. We need linens from those periods, too. We look forward to seeing you any Tuesday from 1:30 to 4 pm in our room. Time's passing quickly, so please donate soon.
For more information, contact Harriet Bolin, A & C team leader.

Choir Notes
Consider using your talent and voice with our Chancel Choir. We are looking for additional voices to join us as we share beautiful anthems with Larry, our organist. He really knows how to lift up our hearts and minds with his spectacular organ preludes. Click here to hear just a sample of what you would be enjoying with us every week!
The fall rehearsal schedule will kickoff on Wednesday, August 10 beginning at 7:30 p.m.
We need voices to offer praise to our Lord and Savior!
Thank you!

GENERAL CONFERENCE REPORT
This is a selection adapted from an article written by Rev. Alfred Day, General Secretary of the General Commission on Archives and History. [Anita Campbell is the Incoming Chairperson of the Florida Conference Archives & History Commission.]
The experience was exhilarating, frustrating, joyous, sad, aggravating, stimulating, forward-thinking, and as gridlocked as the US Congress. In the end, in the midst of rumored schism and abiding, deep dividedness over painful differences regarding human sexuality and full inclusion of LGBTQI (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer or Questioning, and Intersex) persons in the Church, the conference decided to stick together, looking to episcopal leaders to plot a path forward.
The General Conference agenda brought interesting if not ironic historical confluences before the body. The historian in me wondered about their making connections in the present:
* The debate and eventual defeat of Rule 44, the Commission on General Conference's attempt to employ a classic Wesleyan means of grace, intentionally set aside moments for Christian conversation in the midst of the contentious debate. Click here to read the rest of the article.

Florida Conference Activity
Donna Beaty, Trinity's Lay Delegate to the Florida Annual Conference, represented our church well as she heard debates, discussed with others and voted on matters of importance. Read the Bishop's report to the Conference to learn more in detail.
Following Annual Conference, Anita and John Campbell attended the first Quadrennial Leadership Day event and training for Florida Conference clergy and laity, held at St. Luke's UMC in Orlando. Dr. Lovett Weems, director of the Wesley Theological Seminary's Lewis Center for Church Leadership, was the presenter.
"Leading into the Future" was the theme of Dr. Weems' message. T
he audience included Annual Conference committee members and leadership teams, who worked in breakout sessions following Weems' presentations to develop goals, define leadership and initiate plans to fulfill the church's mission. Click here to read the rest of the article.

My Dear Sisters and Brothers,
The last three months have been quite busy in the life of the global United Methodist church, as well as the Florida Conference. In this newsletter, we offer several key reports for your information. As United Methodists, it is vitally important to be aware of changes that have been suggested and made at both the General and Florida Annual conferences. The Florida report, as written by our bishop, is below and a portion of a report on General Conference can be found later in this newsletter. Enjoy reading these reports and, as always, if you want to discuss, please call or see me.
Grace and Peace,
Pastor Brian
FLORIDA AREA REPORT
written by Bishop Kenneth H. Carter, Jr.
I begin with a word of gratitude to the amazing followers of Jesus Christ, laity and clergy, who lead local churches and extension ministries across the Florida Conference. In addition, I want to express my indebtedness to the bishops who preceded me in this episcopal area; I have inherited many strengths and gifts, and I give thanks to God for the opportunity to serve. Mostly I depend upon the promises of God, in particular, that the "One who began a good work in us will be faithful to complete it." (Philippians 1:6). Click here to read the full report.

Summer Music Camp
|
Vacation Bible School
|
We had 16 children attend camp this year, including three new rising 2nd graders for this musical based on the parables called "Here For the Gold!". A great event enjoyed by church members, the families and friends of the campers, and new visitors to Trinity! Norma Clemente videotaped most of the performance which can be viewed here.
|
We had a great time at VBS with an average of 55 campers each day! The students enjoyed crafts, science experiments, outside water balloon activities, indoor games, Bible stories about the Creation with Mrs. Melissa, great songs with Mrs. Conya, great "ocean snacks" and time with
Snappy the Crab.
Special thanks to all of our "helpers" this year. (Campers are still asking where Snappy is!)

Creating H.O.P.E. for the world
There are a number of inspirational videos on
YouTube these days and here is one we think you will enjoy viewing:
Created by the United Methodist Discipleship Ministries, this video offers churches a glimpse into an urban church that opened its doors to all of God's people in different and exciting ways - with a new focus on what a disciple of Christ is and what they should/could become.
The concept embraces the acronym H.O.P.E. which stands for
hospitality,
opportunity,
purpose and
engagement. Our church has been asked to offer these things when reaching out to others - both inside and outside the walls. After previewing, ask yourself - is this your vision for our church? It should be, for
by making disciples we are offering hope to the world and living out the mission of The United Methodist Church.
Grace and Peace,
Editor

Meeting and Greeting
Do you enjoy the brief time we spend greeting each other at Sunday Services? Do you seek out someone you don't know and introduce yourself, or do you just say hello and shake hands with old friends? The
Meet and Greet time is an opportunity to begin connecting with someone new. Research shows that most visitors and occasional attendees feel awkward during this designated period, and this is especially true for those who are more introverted. If we move beyond our own comfort levels and welcome those we either don't recognize or don't know so well, we will be showing ourselves as a truly welcoming church. Next Sunday, why not try it?

Building Committee Update
After the conclusion of the
Stepping Out in Faith campaign, the Building Committee met with our architect, Dana Smith. We began discussions on how to reduce the expense of the new church facility and on phasing development, so as to better match with the pledges received.
We will be meeting again with Dana this month, after he has had a chance to consider our comments and our resources.
Members of the Building Committee, along with representation from the Finance Team, met in July with a representative from the Florida United Methodist Foundation. The Foundation provides low-interest financing for churches, among its other functions. The committee is investigating the prospects of taking out a construction loan in order to advance construction of the new church. Initial indications from the Foundation's representative were that we will qualify for a loan sufficient to meet our needs.

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT
BARBARA BRADLEY
"Thou shalt remember all the ways in which the Lord thy God led thee." - Deuteronomy 8:2
Barbara Bradley, a member of Trinity for six years, is one of the church's "behind-the-scenes" talents. Barbara received an Associate in Science degree from Point Park Junior College in Pittsburgh. She began working as a secretary for the Aluminum Company of America (Alcoa). Later she was hired by a general contractor and learned about the building business. Each time she changed jobs, she learned about a different field. Her next endeavor was American Solar Energy Society where she learned about solar, editing and putting together publications for their conventions.

Trinity Learning Center School Supplies Needed
The Susanna Circle encourages all TUMC members to join them as they bring in supplies for Trinity Learning Center (TLC). Those of you who have children or have taught school realize how much school supplies cost. The children attending TLC do not bring in all of the supplies needed, so the school has asked members to donate supplies which enables them to reserve funds for other expenses.
Lists of what items are needed are posted on the
PINK BINS in the Fellowship Hall. They need cleaning supplies, health & hygiene supplies, linens, dress-up clothes, lunch & snack supplies, arts & crafts supplies, classroom activity supplies, office and teacher supplies, and "loose parts" (such as nuts, bolts, seashells, wooden spools, etc.)
School supplies are on sale NOW at all stores, so your money will stretch even farther! School starts Aug 16, so please make your contribution today. And, if you would like to donate funds, your check should be made out to
Trinity
with
"for Learning Center" in the memo line.

Human Trafficking Program Update
In May, Trinity's United Methodist Women hosted 70 people at the first religious-based Human Trafficking Awareness Night in the area. Ten churches and five different agencies were in attendance. Attendees heard from a DeLand police officer, a Devereux employee, Bikers Against Trafficking, and the Orange City United Methodist Church's (OCUMC) HOPE Team.
Jill Woods and Cinda Lewis head up the
HOPE Team at OCUMC. On October 1, the team (of which Trinity's Lana Saxon is a member) plans to host a dinner to raise funds for a Human Trafficking project. This year, they have chosen the Ruth House (
www.theruthhouse.com), whose founder and President is Dr. Donna Sallee' in Palm Coast. Dr. Sallee', a minister's wife, felt God calling her to build a house to provide a place for 10-12 recovering victims of trafficking. They will shelter victims from Volusia, St. Johns, Putnam, and Flagler counties and the house will be located in one of these counties. Their goal is to raise $400,000 to make this happen.
Please consider attending the
Night of Freedom event at OCUMC on October 1 to learn more and offer support of this worthy cause. Both a live and silent auction will be conducted, so gifts of cash, gift cards, and quality valuables are needed. To donate or for more information, c
all Lana Saxon at 736-1008.
