Crossing Guard Position

Crossing guards are members of our community. They help keep our kids safe and many times are the first person your child sees at the end of the day.

Prairie is using a new crossing guard company for 67th and Mission this year, and instead of assigning someone to our corner they've asked us if we'd like to fill the position with someone we know.

It pays $22/hour for 2 hours each school day. 7:45-8:15 and 3:00-3:30. If you or someone you know is interested please contact Seretha or Ellen in the office.

Join Us August 10th

The ice cream social is the perfect way to re-introduce the kids back to school. Visit the classroom, meet your teacher, enjoy ice cream and reconnect with friends.

4:00-5:00 - Meet your child's teacher and drop off supplies
4:00-6:00 - PTA opportunities in the gym

Visit the gym to:
  • Sign your student up for activities
  • Sign up for parent volunteer opportunities
    • There will be two ways to do this:
      • Online signups

        OR
      • Manual signups in the gym (which will be added to the online sign-ups)
        • Room Parent & Library volunteer positions will only be available at the Ice Cream Social - these roles will not be on the Google Sheet.
  • Pay for PTA membership/directory, Friends of the Library and Yearbook
    • We will NOT be accepting checks - we'll have card readers available for transactions.

Welcome, New Prairie Parents!

With each new class of students comes a new class of parents. Welcome to the Prairie community! We look forward to growing with you and your child.

Please join us at the Ice Cream Social, Wednesday, August 10th from 4:00-6:00 p.m. You and your student can tour the school, visit their classroom and meet other classmates and parents over ice cream. Be sure to stop into the gym to learn about the student activities Prairie offers, join the PTA and donate to Friends of the Library.

What block scheduling means

This year, SMSD is moving to block scheduling for electives like P.E., Art, Music and Library. The purpose of doing this is to ensure students don't miss out on their electives during no school days.

Click  here for Prairie's block schedule structure. Each letter has a corresponding elective, which will your student's teacher will communicate to you.

There will most certainly be a transition period for this new system - please feel free to contact the office with any questions.
