Night striping, chip sealing operations impacted by weather
A wet, cool summer has delayed the County's annual road maintenance, but crews are working hard to meet target completion dates.
"
Hot, dry weather is ideal and so far we haven't had an extended period with the temperatures we like to see," said Dave Schamp, Operations and Maintenance Division manager. "High temperatures shorten the amount of time we have to protect the work from traffic
.
We can still get the work done, but the pace is slower and traffic delays are longer."
The schedule is as follows:
- Night striping: County crews started Aug. 1, and plan to continue for two weeks. County contractors are starting Aug. 8.
- Crack sealing: Crews will start Aug. 8, in preparation for slurry seals on Urban Road Maintenance District roads.
- Chip sealing: This will resume today (Aug. 3), following repairs on a chip spreader which malfunctioned last week.
