Docent spotlight: Martha Baker

Meet Martha Baker. She has been a volunteer docent at the Highlands Ranch Mansion for three months. When asked what she enjoys most about volunteering at the Mansion, she replied, "I particularly enjoy our youngest visitors. They're so enthusiastic and excited. I love the look of awe on their faces when they first come into the building."

Martha has worked with children, volunteering as a storytime reader for the Douglas County library in Castle Rock for eight years. She was also an art history teacher for 20 years and loves to draw, paint, sculpt and work with ceramics.

Martha's favorite room at the Mansion is the Solarium. She likes how bright and airy it is. Martha says, "When you walk into that room, it feels like you're stepping back in time."

Martha is excited to continue her journey as a Mansion docent.
Last Stop at the Mansion

After trick-or-treating this year, make your last stop the Highlands Ranch Mansion. Dress up in your best costume to enter a costume contest. Enjoy live music, beverages, cocktails and don't forget to trick or treat. This event is free to the community and is open to family members of all ages. You don't want to miss this fun night.

The Mansion is full of history
  
John W. Springer, the second owner of the Highlands Ranch Mansion, ran for mayor of Denver in 1904. He lost the election to Robert W. Speer, later known as the "City Beautiful" mayor. If Springer had been victorious, Denver drivers might be commuting on Springer Boulevard instead of Speer Boulevard.

Rent the Mansion for your private event or tour

Located in central Highlands Ranch, the Mansion is open to the public for community and private events, business meetings, tours and cultural programs. This elegant western estate is the perfect place to host weddings, receptions, reunions, anniversaries and other life celebrations, business meetings and retreats.

Historic tours and open hours
Guided tours of the Mansion include a 35-minute tour of the first floor or a tour of the first and second floors, lasting approximately one hour.

Self-guided tours are also welcome. Visitors can follow the tour boards in each room to learn more about the history of the home.

Group tours can be arranged for groups of 10 or more and for youth and student groups.
