I am writing you today to introduce you to an innovative, if not radical, new concept in documentary storytelling and to
invite you to participate as a sponsor.
Concept for LiveZEKE in a 20-ft shipping container at the Photoville festival in Brooklyn, NY.
As an offshoot of ZEKE magazine, we are developing a new experience in visual storytelling called LiveZEKE that will for the first time bring the subjects of a documentary into direct live video conferencing with the viewers of a documentary.
No longer are documentary subjects passive participants while others explore their world.
With LiveZEKE, documentary subjects now become active participants by engaging with audiences directly.
We will be presenting a pilot version of LiveZEKE at the Photoville photography festival in Brooklyn, NY, September 21-25, 2016. (Yes, this September!)
And we are asking for your support to make this successful.
This first presentation of LiveZEKE at Photoville will be based on "The Forgotten Caucasus", a feature article in the spring 2016 edition of ZEKE magazine that showcased documentary photography from the South Caucasus by Ara Oshagan, Daro Sulakauri, and Jan Zychlinski. A web version of this article can be viewed at:
https://zekemagazine.atavist.com/the-forgotten-caucasus .
The Photoville exhibition will include large scale images and text from the South Caucasus magazine article (seen in the above link). This will provide the creative and conceptual framework for the LiveZEKE sessions. We will also present at least two LiveZEKE sessions each day at Photoville. Each session will offer live video conferencing with subjects from the South Caucasus documentary who will be available for dialogue with members of the audience. LiveZEKE will allow festival attendees to learn more about the South Caucasus through direct engagement with people who live there. Translation will be provided if the subjects do not speak English.
We are seeking $12,000 in support from individuals, organizations, and corporations to cover the expenses for this premier presentation of LiveZEKE. Sponsors will receive recognition in the exhibit, on the websites of SDN and ZEKE magazine, and in the print version of ZEKE magazine. Other benefits are displayed on the
GoFundMe donation page.
I hope you can support SDN in this new and innovative concept in documentary, visual storytelling, and journalism.
