Police Annex Demolition 

This week, staff provided a schematic design update to the City Council Committee of the Whole for for the new St. Petesburg Police Department Headquarters. The new three-story headquarters building will be more than 167,000 square feet, feature parking, and a firing range. The building will cost $70 million to construct, and the estimated completion date is December 2018.

To begin the process, City Council members and Chief Holloway, as well as police personnel, joined Mayor Kriseman and Deputy Mayor Tomalin as the mayor used an excavator to begin demolition of the St. Petersburg Police Department Annex building.

FOX 13: Public weighs in on Tropicana Field site  

The future of Tropicana Field is now up for discussion.  Monday night, the city of St. Petersburg welcomed the community to share their ideas on what should be done with the site if the Tampa Bay Rays ultimately move the team elsewhere.

Mayor Rick Kriseman has permitted the Rays to shop around for stadium sites, outside of St. Petersburg. That potentially means that in a few years, whether they stay nearby or move somewhere else in Tampa Bay, the 85-acre Trop site could be vacant

SPB Anne Lindberg: St. Pete Solar Co-op: "Let the sun pay your bills."  

Petersburg on Tuesday became the first Tampa Bay city to be the site of a solar cooperative.

The cooperative will make it easier for homeowners and businesses to afford the equipment needed to rely on solar power, advocates said.

"I'm proud to support this idea of co-ops," St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman said. "It is truly time for St. Petersburg to make solar a part of how we do business."

88.5 WMNF: New Pinellas co-op for rooftop solar power  

Pinellas County residents can now join together to negotiate a discount on rooftop solar power; a new cooperative is forming, called St. Pete Solar Co-op, that will let residents negotiate a group volume discount on solar panels and installation.

Julie Kessel is president of the St. Petersburg area League of Women Voters.  "Well, this co-op is a wonderful opportunity for our residents, in the community, to get affordable solar, help the economy, and save money on their energy bills."

Gulfport Gabber: Bikers Explore Natural Side of Skyway District  

Drive down the section of 34th Street S. in St. Petersburg designated the Skyway Marina District and it mainly looks like asphalt and cement. But as some 50 bike riders discovered, there is some astonishing natural beauty just a few spoke turns away.

The eye-opening bike ride Saturday July 16 was co-sponsored by the fledgling district, which is trying to attract new investment, and ShiftStPete, a non-profit that advocates for bicyclist and pedestrian infrastructure.

Tampa Bay Times: St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman's 2017 budget has easy time at City Council

As real estate values continue to rise, City Council on Thursday approved Mayor Rick Kriseman's proposal to reduce property taxes across the Sunshine City.

With the tentative rate set, City Council will hold two public hearings on Sept. 8 and 22 for residents to opine about Kriseman's 2017 fiscal year budget of $236 million. Council must approve the budget by Oct. 1.
