What we are working on, looking at, thinking about, and inspired by.

BIAMD's 5-Thoughts Friday
Here are the 5 things we thought were worth sharing this week:
Trends we're tracking...

The most recent Department of Defense numbers for Traumatic Brain Injury Worldwide in the First Quarter of 2016  reported 4,592 new cases, broken down by service.

Adding to the overall total number since the DoD began tracking TBI in 200 is now  almost 350,000 service members.

What we've accomplished...

BIAMD Joins AmazonSmile.com

What is AmazonSmile?

AmazonSmile is a simple and automatic way for you to support your favorite charitable organization every time you shop, at no cost to you. When you shop at smile.amazon.com, you'll find the exact same low prices, vast selection and convenient shopping experience as Amazon.com, with the added bonus that Amazon will donate a portion of the purchase price to your favorite charitable organization. You can choose from nearly one million organizations to support.
How do I select a charitable organization to support when shopping on AmazonSmile?

On your first visit to AmazonSmile (smile.amazon.com), you need to select the Brain Injury Association of Maryland to receive donations from eligible purchases before you begin shopping. Amazon remembers your selection, and then the  AmazonSmile Foundation  donates 0.5% of the purchase price for every eligible purchase you make at   smile.amazon.com.

What we are looking forward to...

8th Annual Adapted Sports Festival at UMRehab on Saturday, September 10th
10am - 3pm

Each year, the University of Maryland Rehabilitation & Orthopaedic Institute hosts a one-day Adapted Sports Festival to build awareness about the availability and benefits of adapted sports participation. The event encourages current and former patients, as well as members of the community with physical disabilities, to become engaged.
What we're reading...

"Much of the frustration and confusion related to returning to school can be avoided with proper planning. Rehabilitation professionals should communicate with family members and school personnel to help find the most effective ways to help the student return. This communication may need to be initiated by the student's family."

Quote we are contemplating...

"We are all broken, that's how the light gets in."
Ernest Hemingway
