Dear Colleagues,

It is an exciting and busy time for the College of Medicine.
The Provost has met with the Dean Search Committee.  The process is now in the hands of the Provost & President , and the Provost has outlined his plans for moving forward. Our Student Affairs team is ramping up for M1 Orientation, along with our White Coats-4-Care Reception and White Coat Ceremony. Our staff will be implementing a new orientation program this month.

Dean Search
The Provost expressed his appreciation to the Search Committee for their dedicated service and told them he & the President were doing their own due diligence above and beyond that which has already occurred.
They are, via Witt Kieffer, keeping the candidates fully informed as to their plans.  The President will be away on University business so there will be no return candidate visits scheduled for the immediate future.

New College of Medicine Orientation Program
This will be a more formal and robust orientation for all new hires (although recent/current staff are welcome). They will be held the fourth Wednesday of each month. We have developed a program where all College units will present a short (5 or so minutes) intro of their group so that new employees are exposed to all areas of the Colleges and get to meet the colleagues who will help them transition into their new jobs.

This orientation will not replace, but supplement, the departmental orientation and faculty affairs/evaluation orientations that are also either underway or in development.
The inaugural orientation will be held in the Gelb Auditorium on July 27 to accommodate any current or recent employees who would like to attend. Future orientations will be held in room 123.

M1 Orientation
The College of Medicine and the Office of Student Affairs is looking forward to welcoming our new class of Medical Students in just a few short weeks.  Their M1 Orientation week is schedule for August 1st - 5th. We have designed an Orientation Week that is intended to help them get to know more about the Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine, meet their classmates, deans and faculty, and hear about the resources available to them as an FAU medical student.  From the team building exercises on their first day to the White Coat Ceremony welcoming them into the practice of medicine on Friday evening, we hope they will find the week to be a useful immersion experience.

White Coats-4-Care Reception
The White Coats-4-Care event is coming up soon on August 1st at 5:30 pm at the Waterstone Resort & Marina. Graciously arranged by Bonnie and Jon Kaye.  Please rsvp or underwrite a white coat today!
This event provides internal and external stakeholders in the community an opportunity to engage and take ownership of their medical school by making gifts of the medical students' first doctors' white coats, supporting the White Coat Ceremony and medical student scholarships. Participants have the opportunity to meet FAU and Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine leadership along with representative medical students from the incoming class and the rising second-year medical students.
