Bruce, a resident at Cooper House, serves as a reminder of how a caring community, support and hope can make a difference in someone's life. Emaciated at arrival, since moving to Cooper House he has gained 64 pounds while regaining his health.

Bruce is passionate about magic. He has been a magician since he was 13-years-old and has performed over 5,000 shows! He believes that imagination and creativity have the power to bring different people together.  Bruce finds inspiration in the magic of Doug Henning. One of his favorite quotes by Henning is, "If we live with a sense of wonder, then our lives will be filled with joy."  Keep up your magic, Bruce. We're rooting you on!

Teri Dunn greets the guests
at the Keystone Reception
Last month, nearly 90 Keystone Society members gathered in the home of Christopher Brenner and Tyler Olsen to attend a donor appreciation reception co-hosted by Keystone co-chairs, Ed Giganti, Carol and Tom Voss and Kathie and Richard Winter. Thank you to everyone involved in the event for hosting a meaningful and fun evening.

One of the highlights of the evening was hearing from Teri Dunn, DOORWAYS' Employment and Self-Sufficiency Specialist (pictured right), who provided a brief overview of her program highlighting a few statistics: 79 clients began an employment search with Teri's help; 26 found employment; 3 returned to school to obtain a GED or higher. When we talk about HOUSING HEALTH HOPE, this is one form of HOPE we are providing. Ron Jagels, Board Member and Development Chair, introduced the refreshed Legacy Society and briefly described how members can support DOORWAYS' mission and programs through planned giving. For more information on Planned Giving or the Keystone Society, please call Jim Timmerberg at 314-328-2705 or email [email protected].

Looking for a practical way to support our clients?

For clients in our emergency housing program, transportation is a barrier. They come to us in need of shelter but often have no way of getting to the office or to the emergency shelter. Around 78% of clients needing emergency housing have no income. Bus passes are a necessity to find employment, get to doctor appointments and ultimately to search for permanent housing.

One book of bus tickets contains 10 ride tickets and will provide transportation for approximately two weeks. A monthly bus pass provides unlimited usage of St. Louis area transit.

Please consider stopping by your favorite grocer's customer service desk to purchase a book of bus tickets or a monthly bus pass to donate to our clients. Click to purchase passes online.
For questions about our emergency housing program or donating bus passes, please contact Brenda Malone or Kim Mosby at 314-535-1919 or email [email protected].
VolunteersThank You Volunteers

DOORWAYS was privileged to have over 75 volunteers from the Disciples of God Teen Service Program with us for three days in June. Volunteers from Texas, Arkansas, Tennessee and Missouri worked at each of our properties to spruce up the grounds and organize the common areas. From painting and cleaning at Mama Kaya and Partridge Place to playing Bingo at Cooper House, these volunteers spent over 1,000 cumulative hours giving back to our organization. We thank them for a successful week of service! If you are interested in volunteering contact Patrick Young at 314-328-2707 or email [email protected].
