Candy for our Neighbors
in the Congo
In August, I will be serving on a mission team in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. We have been asked to teach discipleship and leadership to residents of the Kamina Children's Home in the North Katanga Conference. One of my duties is to bring thank you gifts for our hosts. I will be bringing hard candy and creating simple "hobo" bags with the word "peace" in three languages painted on them with fabric paint.

If you would like to participate in this mission project, I welcome your support! Here are four ways you can support this mission to Kamina Children's Home:

1) Pray that God works in a mighty way through this mission team from West Ohio Conference.

2) Contribute Candy. Please bring individually wrapped candies by Monday, July 25 to the church office; please place your donations in the bin marked "Candy for the Congo". List of candy to donate:  Jolly Rancher hard candy,  Life Savers (individually wrapped), peppermint hard candy (individually wrapped), Salt Water taffy, Werther's  butterscotch (individually wrapped), Tootsie Rolls midges.

3) If you would like to help me sew and paint the cloth bags, please contact me at [email protected] or 979-8182.  We will be gathering in the Welcome Center on July 26 from 2:00 - 6:30 pm.

Employment

Job Opening(10 hrs/wk). Part-time coordinator of Young Adult Ministry. We seek an individual with a heart for connecting young adults with God and one another.  Skill in creating new spaces for young adults to deepen their faith through small groups, mission, and gatherings that build community for persons in their twenties and thirties is desired.
The full job description can be found at:  http://hydeparkchurch.org/employment/  Interested persons are invited to submit a cover letter and resume by July 22 to Rev. Dr. Cathy Johns:  [email protected].
OTR Summer Reading Camp

Our Summer Reading Camp started last week and will continue for the next five weeks at the Over-the-Rhine Community Church (formally Nast Trinity UMC). There are ten children enrolled, 2nd-4th graders, 9:00 am - 1:00 pm every weekday, from July 11 - August 12.

Volunteers are needed to read with the students and help them with their assignments and daily activities when they are not with the reading specialists provided by SRC. Each student has a notebook and are asked to answer questions about each book they read and the notebook also has story sheets with questions. SCR provides a large selection of children's books and the students can choose the books they read each day. A volunteer for each student would be ideal.

Last week we averaged 2-3 volunteers for each hour of the 4-hour program. The children love having someone to read, work and do activities with them. It would be helpful if you would send me ([email protected]) a list of the dates and times you're available, but showing up without notice is fine too!

Over-the-Rhine Community Church is at 1310 Race Street. Parking is available on the street ($0.75/hour) or in the garage ($1.00/hour unless otherwise marked).
