Calling all ZentangleŽ and Art Journaling enthusiasts! I know its summer now but in January you'll want to come in from the cold, jump into your comfy clothes and get ready for fun!  Jump! is a relaxing all inclusive weekend of art, tangling, sharing, laughing and learning! This year we continue to explore ZentangleŽ Inspired Art and Mixed Media Art  through a variety of techniques and mediums including tangling, mono-printing, journaling, stamping, bookmaking, paints, markers and collage!

This is your retreat come relax, create, and enjoy! January 13 - 15/16, 2017 at the Southbridge Hotel and Conference Center.

Jeanine Kelly will teach mono printing WITHOUT a Gelli plateYou will learn how to use recycled materials and everyday objects to create mono prints! This addicting technique is fun and practical. You will make your own papers to use in art journaling, card making, and many other uses!

Kimberly Barcello will introduce us to the index card art journaling movement. This small format allows you to have fun, experiment and explore without the fear of "wrecking" a larger piece.

And I will lead you in a project that repurposes an envelope into a multi-media book and pocket. Your pieces from Jeanine and Kimberly's classes will become part of this project and the whole weekends' work will be enveloped (ha ha!) and tied with a bow!

The retreat includes all of your meals, snacks and beverages, awesome goodie bag stuffed with art supplies and surprises. Once you park your car there is no need to go out for anything! Pick a spot in the light filled studio and enjoy! Our schedule is a balance of class and unstructured time. This gives you time to absorb class material, create on your own, share with others, socialize, swim in the pool or soak in the hot tub! New this year you can add Sunday night - this will include your choice of lodging, snacks and three meals, and use of the studio through 3 pm on Monday.

Kimberly Barcello "I started making art when I first learned to put my hands into paint or squeeze a lump of earthy clay.   My dad was an artist and he was the first  to encourage me on my journey.  He would provide me with a variety of serious art materials, but of course I also had Playdoh and Crayola crayons to use unsupervised to my heart’s content.  I distinctly remember waiting for Dad to get home from work, so that we could continue on to the next step in my oil painting still life, or when he would bring home my ceramic sculpture still warm from the kiln.  Mom’s part in leading me down the creative path was in signing me up for sewing lessons when I was just 7 years old.  Grandma played a part as well, buying my first brand new Singer machine. So, then I discovered how to manipulate fabric along with a myriad of other materials.

I attended formal art school in my late 20’s where I learned all the rules that would hold me back for the next 15 years.  I did learn the very important rules of design for which I’m forever grateful, but the critiques were far from uplifting, and left an already sensitive person with no courage or confidence to develop art any further.  Not until I started working with mixed media collage, art journaling and  Zentangle with a platform where I could make mistakes with abandon, did I feel my childhood muse come back and take me by the hand. Technically, I became an artist in 1991, but not until about 15 years ago did those words come out of my mouth. At that point I finally felt I could call myself a true artist.   In retrospect, however,   I was an artist with my very first breath of life. "

Jeanine Kelly first became interested in Zentangle after seeing a display in an art store window. She became a CZT in April of 2015 as a gift to herself. She never realized the wonderful world of art friends she would encounter! These friends have led her to many classes and to "Jump!". Jeanine has been furiously learning new techniques and creating really fun art journal pages on an almost daily basis! Jeanine holds a BFA from the University of Connecticut and an M.Ed. from American International Colleges. She is a music teacher in the Falmouth Public School.
