Maryland's Buy Local Week starts this weekend and runs through next Sunday.  Try the Buy Local Challenge this week!  

The Buy Local Challenge is a personal commitment to support farms by eating local.

A peach a day from Three Springs....Slices of canteloupe all week from Pat Hochmuth....Blackberries for a hot minute? 

Tomatoes, summer squash, basil, onions, peppers, eggs, honey, goat cheese--just think of the dishes and meals you can create this week around your market purchases.  Even goodies like No. 1 Sons' Red N Butter sweet vinegar pickles and Simple Pleasures' watermelon sorbet made from Pleitez Produce fruit count towards eating local.

Sounds pretty doable, right?  

So come on over to the Farmers Market, 10-2 this Sunday and get started!

Elk Run Winery and Vineyards
Elk Run Winery and Vineyards, nestled in the rolling hills north of Mount Airy, has been growing vinifera grapes and producing wine since the 1980s, making it one of Maryland's oldest operating wineries. Jack Creek Plants is located in beautiful southern Anne Arundel County and has been growing plants for market since the mid 1990's.  They strive to produce vigorous, healthy plants for your home garden: annual flowers, herbs, vegetable plants and perennials - including many native plants.  All plants are grown in an earth-friendly manner to optimize growth and minimize inputs.  Cut herbs and flowers are also offered when available. Second and fourth Sundays. 

King Mushroom Farms
Fresh, local, gourmet mushrooms grown in a controlled environment without use of chemicals or pesticides. First and third Sundays.    

MeatCrafters
Artisanal sausages and salami made from pork, chicken, turkey and lamb using the freshest spices, herbs and seasonal blends designed to bring out unique, complex, yet subtle flavors.

Pat Hochmuth Farm
A variety of veggies, fruits, and specialty gourds, including his famous sweet potatoes. Pat also brings his exquisite hand-painted birdhouse gourds and ornaments.  

Patty's Garden
Certified Organic vegetables, herbs, and garden plants, specializing in heirloom tomatoes. 

Pleitez Produce
A wide variety of veggies, fruits, and potted herbs from Virginia's Northern Neck.

Primaterra Farm
A small farm in southern Prince Georges County with a diverse array of produce grown naturally, without synthetic fertilizers, fungicides, pesticides, or herbicides and planted, cultivated, and harvested by hand in order to minimize dependence on fossil fuels.
   
Romano Winery  
Family owned winery in southern Prince George's County producing small lots of handcrafted wine from their own grapes and and those of carefully selected custom growers.  Selected Sundays. 
 
Roy and RT's Kitchen Garden
Specialty Indonesian food featuring vegetables from Roy and RT Caspari's own farm and other locally produced food.   

A variety of veggies, hydroponic lettuces, fruits, herbs, hanging baskets, eggs, and honey. Be sure to visit their farm for pick-your-own strawberries and pumpkins!  
 
Fantastic homemade ice creams, Italian ices, sherbets, and sorbets using cream from Shenandoah Farms. Often features flavors using fruits from our market vendors!  

European-style breads, baguettes, rolls, croissants, tartlets, focaccia, scones, cookies, and other baked goods. Yummy empanadas, too!  

El Taco Loco & Crepes  
Unforgettably delectable sweet and savory crepes and freshly squeezed lemonade.

A wide variety of fruits, veggies, jellies, juices, ciders, jams, dried fruits, canned peaches, fruit butters, and apple sauce. 
 
Tiffany's Oven
Delicious vegan cuisine including substantial, freshly prepared entrees and a selection of desserts, including cookies and brownies-all of it egg- and dairy-free. Their vegan cuisine specializes on traditional eats from bbq rib sandwiches to spinach turnovers. New this year: Smoothies!
 
Check out their terrific selection of sustainably-harvested seafood, including wild-caught salmon. They have delicious local eggs, too!    
 
Woodland Harvest Farm 
Family farm in Delaware growing a range of veggies.  Pesticide-free and grown without chemical fertilizers.
 
Locally roasted single-estate farm coffee; many of which are either certified organic, fair trade, or Rainforest Alliance. Get it hot or iced, or buy the beans to brew yourself! Cold brew coffee and tea available, too.
