Peace Email Connection - July 15, 2016
This Weekend in Worship:

Sunday, July 17th

Sermon: Rev. LeeAnn Inman
The Amazing Faith Race: "Cheering Faith On"

Scripture: Hebrew 10:11-25 (NRSV)

Since the player/coach Jesus gave his all for us, forgiving our personal failures (sins), we have the confidence not only to run for our own sakes. Jesus wants us to be diligent in meeting together, encouraging each other in the faith race to make a difference for good, even as we anticipate the greatest race of all.
Annual Back to School Supply Gift Card Drive

Our annual Peace School Supply Gift Card Drive is back!  As a new school year is quickly approaching, we again have the opportunity to bless many young people and their parents in this very tangible way. Because supply lists vary so greatly from school to school, we are once again collecting gift cards and monetary donations.
We will distribute the gift cards to families with children associated with our congregation and our Meals Assistance Program.  If you bring in actual gift cards, please bring in as many as you want to contribute, but keep the denominations lower, like $10 to $20 and from major retailers like Target and Wal-Mart. They can be dropped off at the church office or in the offering plate.  Help give a child a great start to the new school year!  Thank you for your support!
Women's Summer Study - "Lavender Springs" - July 15

It's not too late to come this evening! Join us in the sanctuary at 7:00 p.m.

As women we are pulled in many directions. Rarely do we have an opportunity to just sit, relax and be refreshed. This summer join us for a relaxing and spiritually nourishing spa-themed study of the Psalms where you'll be reminded of God's faithfulness and the power of connecting with other women.
  • No homework (unless you are Heidi Hoopingarner) - just show up and be blessed
  • Sessions are under 1 1/2 hours-no excuses not to fit them into your busy summer schedule
  • Open to women of all ages (we'd invite the guys, but we don't think they'd enjoy the lavender scented spa treats)
  • Childcare provided
Also mark your calendars now for our final study night of the summer season - August 19th from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m.   PLEASE RSVP  by emailing or calling the Church Office 407-438-8947.
Prayer Shawl Ministry Workshop - July 18

Some of our Peace families have accepted Pastor Stubbs' invitation to assist St. Michaels with one week of their VBS this summer.  We will be taking our "Cave Quest" VBS to the Caribbean to share with approximately 60 children who live in the community encircling our sister church, St. Michaels.  Please be in prayer for the following participants that they may travel safely and that God will bless their efforts:  Rich and Cameron Meek; Vivian, Sofia and Emma Delgado; Joanna, Callen and Mason Sell; Brian, Heidi, Eric, Dylan and Brandon Hoopingarner.  How can you help?

*We need prayer for the trip.  You don't have to be a designated prayer partner to pray for us.  We need all prayer!  God will combine them ALL and use it to his glory!  Pray often!

Peace Stewardship News - July 2016

Mid-Year Overview:
As of end of June our contributions are slightly below what they were at this time last year, and our total income for 2016 is at about 92% of our budgeted projections.  Meanwhile, staff and ministry leaders continue to work diligently to manage ministry expenses, and our 2016 year to date expenses are equal to last year and under budget.  Summer months are always difficult with increased expenses for utilities, youth programs, and children's ministry, even as giving goes down because people are away.  Please help us stay on track even while enjoying some much deserved rest and relaxation.  Consider donating online if you are going to be away.

Text Giving to be Tested
For you "Millennials" or those embracing their shopping habits, we will be testing an option to collect contributions via your phone.  The intent is to make donating quick and easy by sending a text message to an assigned phone number for those of us who rarely carry a checkbook or cash.  Donating to the general fund will be as simple as sending a message with the amount you want to donate to the number provided.  If you are interested in participating in the test, please contact Melanie Pipkin at 407-702-9705.

SOM Update - "Pardon our dust...again!"
The Trustee Committee is continuing their efforts to take care of repair and maintenance items needed for the church.  The current SOM-funded project is replacing the sinks and countertops in the four preschool classrooms.  The goal is to have these completed prior to the start of the next school year so watch for these changes over the next few weeks and thank you for your patience as we make these improvements to our well-used spaces.

New Chair of Finance Committee
A huge thank you to John Gordon for his many years of service to Peace Church as our Finance Committee Chair.  He turned his duties over to Earl Roach effective in May.  Thank you, Earl, for so graciously agreeing to serve our church in this essential role. We look forward to your insights and new perspectives.
Peace Recycling Program

Peace continually explores ways to be good stewards of our shared resources. We are excited to announce a radically enhanced recycling program on our church campus.  And we need your help!
New recycling technology has enabled "single-stream" recycling - a system in which all paper fibers, plastics and other containers no longer need to be sorted into separate bins.

We have begun placing blue recycling bins across our church that will make it easy and convenient for all of us to recycle. Your support will allow us to help care for our church and our planet. Please place these items into our blue recycling bins:

Aluminum Cans, Plastic Bottles, Flattened Cardboard, Office Paper, Paper Bags, Worship Bulletins (or take them home to read!),
Before placing in the recycling bin, please ensure that containers are empty, bottles have their caps off, and food particles have been removed.

Outside the kitchen door you'll see our main Progressive company recycling bin.  Please DO NOT PLACE FOOD OR OTHER TRASH in this bin, only items to be recycled.  Thank you for your assistance!
Hope for the Homeless Ministry

Hope for the Homeless
is a ministry originally created by Peace Youth member Lauren Fling. Lauren had started this amazing idea to pack backpacks for the homeless. Now that Lauren is going off to college I am so excited by the fact that I will be taking over this ministry.  The purpose of Hope for the Homeless is to collect backpacks full of necessities such as canned foods, toiletries and also books. The two most needed items we need right now are backpacks and canned food (ready-to-eat food with pull-tab lids). If you have anything to donate or would like to help in other ways, email me at  [email protected] . Your donations would be very appreciated and may be dropped-off in the Peace Church Office.  Thank you. - Sofia Delgado
UCP Sensory Room Wish List

My name is Tyson Sangster and I have Autism. I'm a first grader at UCP of Central Florida Osceola Campus and like most of the students in my school, we have special needs. We attend different therapies daily several times a week. They help those, like me, who've been told by others that they would never walk, talk, run, or achieve our dreams. As a nonprofit organization, UCP walks hand in hand with other community agencies whose mission it is to help children, with and without special needs, to reach their full potential.

As part of UCP Osceola expansion, they are in need of a sensory room in their Therapy department to better fulfill the children's needs. Below you will find a list of the items that are needed to make this possible.

Your consideration is very much appreciated. Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact my Mom or Dad (Gigi and Brandon Sangster) at 407-932-8000 or [email protected]. (Items can be dropped off at the Peace Church Office)

'Peace for Orlando' Bands for Sale to Raise Funds for Pulse Victims

I was born and raised in Orlando, FL. Like many of you, I never believed this could happen in my city. I never believed I would know someone this could happen to. But it did happen, and I do know victims. They are people I went to high school with, people I have worked with, and members of my church. And I am not alone. Like many others, I feel outraged and helpless in the face of this tragedy. We started donating blood and gathering donations, but wanted to do more.  We are now selling silicone wrist bands (in rainbow and light blue colors) and 100% of the proceeds will go directly to the OneOrlando Fund. Go to the website www.peacefororlando.com for more information.

Peace Youth Summer Events

"YOUNTIE" is a summer experience where our rising Sixth Graders spend time playing games, sharing meals, having meaningful devotions, and bonding together every Thursday night. The idea is that as this group becomes close through the summer, by the time they enter officially into Youth in the fall, they will be united and excited to be there.  Each Thursday night we'll meet at church at 5:30 p.m., get dinner at Chick-fil-A, play some games, have a Bible study, and then head out to someone's home or to a local area for more fun.  If you are a rising Sixth Grader, we hope you join us for these fun and exciting summer evening activities.

"ENCOUNTER" is the new name for our Sunday night Youth Worship and Small Groups! Every Sunday night at Youth we will continue to offer a complete worship service geared towards teenagers, with  meaningful messages, music, multimedia, laughter, and multiple reflective response options.  Hope to see you all there!  Encounter Schedule: Youth Hang-Out - 5:00 p.m., Dinner - 5:30 p.m., Worship and Small Groups - 6:15 - 7:30 p.m., MS Pick-Up - 7:30 p.m., HS Encore - After Small Groups until 9:00 p.m.
