CIBC TO BUY PRIVATEBANCORP IN $3.8 BILLION DEAL
The PrivateBank ( Karen Case) is being acquired by Toronto-based CIBC in the largest bank deal since the acquisition of the former LaSalle Bank by Bank of America. CIBC will provide capital and liquidity to enable The PrivateBank to continue its growth trajectory. This is an acquisition (where we continue to run our business) vs a takeover (where we integrate into someone else's platform).  A win-win for our clients, our colleagues and our community.  As client Larry Levy noted, "same beautiful car, bigger engine."

NEWS FOR MY TCN FRIENDS FROM SUZIE ISAACS
Timing is everything! In early April, the broker who had tried three times to sell my Chicago condo, where I've lived for nearly 42 years, called and asked if I wanted to put it on the market again because the time was right. Four other units in my tier just had been sold and she was certain that she would find a buyer.

Well, she did.

A few weeks later I was in New Orleans for a family reunion (I think you know it's my hometown) and found an ideal apartment in the French Quarter. I took it on the spot. This is where my office and art studio will be.   A few months earlier, one of my sisters married and moved in with her new husband. But she didn't want to sell her townhouse and asked me to live there so it wouldn't be unoccupied. It is a gorgeous place in a very safe area of Old Metairie called deLimon.

Things were falling into place. So I got a puppy!

Closing is scheduled for August 1. I'll be leaving on July 29 or 30. If you find yourself in New Orleans, I expect to hear from you. Phone number will not change. As of August 1:

Ampersand, Inc.
515 Madison Street
New Orleans, LA 70116
Home
308 Rue St. Peter
Metairie, LA 70005

I was invited to join TCN in 1987. Over those 28 years I've had wonderful opportunities to make new friends and participate in so many events. Also, it's been a privilege to publish books for fellow TCN members and those referred to us by members. I'm not retiring, so keep Ampersand, Inc. in mind...and THANK YOU for everything.

My best to all!

  • The overall vacancy rate reached 12.4%, the lowest it has been since the recession
  • Overall gross asking rental rates for all building classes increased 3.3% to $35.56 PSF year-over-year
  • The investment sales market has been slow - less than half of last year's first quarter volume
  • Could a perfect storm of new office developments, rising build-out costs and a large amount of sublease space push Chicago towards a more tenant-favorable market
