SAINTS PETER AND PAUL SCHOOL
CLASS OF 1976 TO HOLD REUNION

"Winter must be cold for those with no warm memories."
So said Terry McKay, played by Deborah Kerr, to Nickie Ferrante, her love interest played by Cary Grant in An Affair to Remember.

As the Class of 1976 prepares to spend the night of Saturday, July 23, sharing memories in celebration of their 40th anniversary of their graduation from Saints Peter and Paul School on Saturday, July 23, one wonders what recollections they will readily recall.

Who, for instance, will remember their classmates who were referenced in the Yearbook under the nicknames of Buzz, Blondie, Cellulose, Snoops, Starsky, Rhinestone, Donut, Moose, Lenrod, or Bologna?

Who was the pastor who signed their diplomas?

What role did Mr. Pearson play on the faculty?  Who taught Spanish? French?

Who assigned pushups to those who couldn't solve a Math problem?

What service could the boys perform in church that the girls couldn't?

In which building was the library held?  Who was a huge Elvis fan?

What noontime recess activity was initiated in their eighth grade year?  Who received the John Philip Sousa award?

Who was the Student Council president?  What was the name of the school paper?

What sport did the boys play that the girls didn't?  Who were the two school secretaries?

What were the five plays that Mrs. Tertinger and Mrs. McDonagh produced in 8th grade?

What was the name of our own basketball tournament that debuted in 8th grade?

The Trojan connection did not end when diplomas were issued to all seventy members of the Class of '76.  Six members of this first graduating class of Frank Glowaty had their own children graduate from Saints Peter and Paul School: Julie Carducci Carlsen, Mark Guido, Jim Hayes, Terry Moran, Bernadette Koller Payne, and Chris Lenert Bernstein.

In addition, Steve Minor, Michael O'Connor, and Jeanine Dingens Lifka also had children enrolled at our school for a period of time.  Finally, Joe Kupsche's sister, Karen, currently teaches kindergarten, and Jeannene Cooper's sister, Ruthy, is also a member of the faculty teaching fifth grade Religion and Jr. HighTechnology.

The graduates will begin their festivities by attending the 5:00 p.m. Mass in Church before heading over to Zuker Hall for a buffet dinner.  Later in the evening all attendees will be taken on a tour of both school buildings to take note of the numerous upgrades in facilities and programs that have taken place in the past four decades.

Because so many members of this class had siblings either a year ahead or behind them, the reunion committee is inviting members from the Class of 1975 or 1977 to join them.  There is a nominal fee for attendance to cover food and drink.  Any remaining funds will benefit Saints Peter & Paul School.

SSPP Trivia

When our school was founded in 1853....

....our students could not spend part of their summer vacation visiting a zoo because the Philadelphia Zoo was the first zoo in the United States.  Chartered by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania on March 21, 1859, its opening was delayed by the American Civil War until July 1, 1874.
