Hello members of the Emma community,

Since the May update the work of the search for Emma's new Head of School has focused on identifying and recruiting outstanding candidates who are accomplished leaders, who are passionate advocates for girls' education and who embrace and model the mission, values and vision of Emma Hart Willard and the Emma community.

We are extremely pleased with the results of this work. Among those who have expressed strong interest in Emma are talented leaders from independent schools and higher education throughout the country. We are particularly pleased by the diversity among our candidates. What is most gratifying, however, is what the candidates are telling us about Emma. We are well known throughout the world for our success in outstanding curricular and co-curricular offerings for the girls, in highly impressive college placement, in the solidity of our finances, in the quality of our programs, in admissions and for our focus on the individual girl.

We would like to reassure our entire community that the issue of student safety will be a topic pursued with every candidate.  Of course, thorough background checks will be performed on each candidate.  More importantly, however, we will be querying how they would ensure the safety of students under their care, as well as address the grief of those who suffered while at Emma.

A quick reminder about the search calendar. We plan to select and interview semifinalists in September, to select and interview finalists in October and to bring the search to closure toward the end of October. I will confirm information on the closing stages of the search in my next update in mid-September. In the meantime, we continue to welcome your input and invite you to contact me, any member of the search committee, or our search consultants Chris Arnold and Jerry Larson.

In short, the search is going very well!
